Developmental exposure to carbamates, organophosphates, and pyrethroids has been associated with impaired neurodevelopmental outcomes. Sex-specific differences following chronic insecticide exposure are rather common in vivo. Therefore, we assessed the chronic effects of in vitro exposure to different carbamates (carbaryl, methomyl and aldicarb), organophosphates [chlorpyrifos (CPF), chlorpyrifos-oxon (CPO), and 3,5,6,trichloropyridinol (TCP)], and pyrethroids [permethrin, alpha-cypermethrin and 3-phenoxy benzoic acid (3-PBA)] on neuronal network development in sex-separated rat primary cortical cultures using micro-electrode array (MEA) recordings.

We investigated the relationship between tests of biochemical lung maturity [lecithin/sphingomyelin ratio (L/S ratio)], static compliance of the respiratory system (Crs), and estimates of pulmonary gas transfer [venous admixture and arterial/alveolar (a/A) ratio] in a group of intubated preterm infants with and without respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Thirty infants were studied once (n = 26) or twice (n = 4). The L/S ratio was obtained by means of high-performance thin-layer chromatography and determination of the phosphorus content.

Thaumatin and monellin are the two sweetest compounds known to man--about 100,000 times sweeter than sugar on a molar basis and 3000 times on a weight basis. These proteins represent a unique class of proteins that are taste-active. We report the three-dimensional structure of thaumatin I at 3.
