Objective: to evaluate the feasibility, safety and benefits of minimally invasive surgery for resection of gastric submucosal tumor (GSMT).

Methods: we conducted a retrospective study of medical records of patients undergoing endoscopy-assisted laparoscopic resection of gastric submucosal tumors (prospectively collected) from 2011 to 2014. We evaluated clinical data, surgical approach, clinicopathological characteristics of the GSMT (size, location, histopathological and immunohistochemical exams), outcome and patients follow-up.

Background: Insulinoma are insulin productive tumors originated from the pancreatic beta cells with an incidence of 4/1 million persons. It is more prevalent between the 5th and 6th decade, in women (2:1) and from the endocrine pancreatic tumor is the more frequent (50% to 60%). Insulinoma behave as a benign tumor when the diameter is inferior to 2 cm.

Background: We evaluated the medium term changes in insulin sensitivity in morbidly obese patients with and without metabolic syndrome before and after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) with silastic ring (Capella-Fobi).

Methods: A longitudinal, clinical intervention study was conducted in 40 patients between 18 and 65 years old, with obesity class II and III (BMI > or =35-52 kg/m(2)), divided into 2 groups: no metabolic syndrome (NMS, n=21) and metabolic syndrome (MS, n=19). Anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests and classification of MS according to the NCEP criteria, were performed pre-operatively and at 3 and 6 months postoperatively.

Background: The liver donor shortage and the higher demand on liver transplantation led to advanced liver surgery techniques in order to better utilization of the cadaveric liver donors. That is why the split-liver technique had been applicated in liver transplantation where the liver after been divided into two lobes would be implanted in two recipients.

Aims: This paper has the goal of study both the extra-hepatic arterial distribuition and anatomie of the liver with application on the split-liver transplantation separating the liver in right and left hepatic lobe.
