  • The study aimed to evaluate the effects of the COVID-19 state of emergency on visits to a traumatology emergency department, focusing on both the quantity and severity of cases.
  • During the emergency period from March 14 to April 13, 2020, there was a significant drop in total visits, from an average of 3,212 in the previous two years to just 445 in 2020, along with an increase in serious cases (triage levels 1-3).
  • The findings indicate that while overall visits decreased, the proportion of major injuries increased, suggesting patients with severe injuries were more likely to seek treatment during the pandemic.
