Two clone lines (Dd2 and 3D7) of Plasmodium falciparum were cultivated continuously in human erythrocytes at 37 degrees C in RPMI 1640 medium with human serum and subjected to 6% sorbitol treatment 2 times in order to obtain highly synchronized cultures. View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe report 12 uncomplicated falciparum-malaria cases from semi-immune people from Central Africa treated with sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine (Fansidar) in a Spanish hospital. We resolved by PCR-RFLP the mutations in dhfr and dhps genes related to resistance to antifolate drugs. The 12 patients presented high frequencies of combined mutations in both genes but they were completely cured after treatment.
