Reverse shoulder arthroplasty in obese patients: analysis of functionality in the medium-term.

Introduction: Obesity is an epidemic nowadays and this fact conditions results in orthopaedic surgery. Very few studies evaluates if obesity is a risk factor for reverse shoulder arthroplasty. The aim of this study is to confirm if there are differences with regard to the outcomes in patients undergoing reverse shoulder arthroplasty according to their body mass index (BMI).

Arthroscopic findings in melorheostosis.

Melorheostosis is a rare dysplastic bone formation disease that can also affect the joints. We present a case of a patient with knee pain that was radiographically diagnosed as melorheostosis because of "dripping wax" image. An exploratory arthroscopy was made.

The comparison of measurement accuracy among three different imaging modalities in evaluating elastofibroma dorsi. An analysis of 52 cases.

Purpose: Elastofibroma dorsi (ED) is a rare soft-tissue tumour. Diagnosis is made using imaging, mainly magnetic resonance due to its higher sensitivity and specificity in soft tissues. No agreement exists when deciding which imaging test must be used.

Role of perioperative intravenous iron therapy in elderly hip fracture patients: a single-center randomized controlled trial.

Background: The main objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of intravenous (IV) iron sucrose therapy reducing transfusion requirements in elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery.

Study Design And Methods: This study was a prospective randomized controlled trial involving 200 patients undergoing hip fracture surgery. Group A (100 patients) received standard treatment, while Group B (100 patients) received iron sucrose (600 mg IV).

Acute Traumatic Fibular Bowing Associated with Ankle Fracture.

We present a case of traumatic fibular bowing associated with ankle fracture in a 14-year-old girl. Acute traumatic bowing deformities of the fibula have always been reported as associated with mid-shaft tibial fractures, but involvement of the distal fibula associated with an ankle fracture has not been reported. The clinical picture is described and the mechanism of injury discussed.

[Malnutrition as a prognostic factor in elderly patients with hip fractures].

Background And Objective: Hip fracture occurs frequently in elderly patients, with devastating effects on the quality of life due to the high financial burden and the high mortality rate in patients with this condition. Malnutrition is prevalent in the elderly and it can negatively influence patients' recovery from hip fracture. Our proposal was to assess the relationship between malnutrition and the recovery of patients with hip fracture.

Anterior medial meniscus detachment and anterior cruciate ligament tear.

This paper reports on two cases of medial meniscus injury involving detachment of the anterior horn together with a coronary ligament tear. Both cases were associated with tearing of the anterior cruciate ligament. The meniscal injuries observed were similar to those reported in the literature prior to the development of arthroscopic surgery.

Effect of rofecoxib on pain caused by osteoid osteoma.

In a prospective study, nine patients with osteoid osteoma were treated with a selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor (rofecoxib). Patient pain perception with no treatment, with conventional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) treatment, and with rofecoxib therapy was compared using a visual analog scale. Tumor response was also monitored by radiographs, computed tomography, and bone scintigraphy.
