Introduction: The vocal characteristics of countertenors (CTTs) are poorly understood due to a lack of studies in this field. This study aims to explore differences among CTTs at various professional levels, examining both disparities and congruences in singing styles to better understand the CTT voice.
Materials And Methods: Four CTTs (one student, one amateur, and two professionals) sang "La giustizia ha già sull'arco" from Handel's Giulio Cesare, with concurrent videofluoroscopic, electroglottography (EGG), and acoustic data collection.
Objectives: Seeing Voices was an interprofessional, technology-enabled, large-scale, teaching and learning event developed to address the need to improve voice students' knowledge of laryngeal anatomy and physiology toward understanding and maintaining vocal health. Seeing Voices trialed a novel interprofessional educational approach, collected both quantitative and qualitative data about student experiences of laryngostroboscopic examination, and built a databank of laryngeal recordings for future student learning.
Methods: Seeing Voices involved two 3-hour seminars in a large, university lecture space, run by an interprofessional team (speech-language pathologists, vocal coach, Ear Nose and Throat consultant) with quality equipment projecting laryngeal images to large screens with expert commentary in real time.
Introduction: Vibratory positive expiratory pressure (PEP) devices are now commonly used as a resource for voice therapy. PEP devices promote improved vocal economy with the added benefit of producing a massage effect in the vocal tract. Although the benefits of PEP devices for voice have already been demonstrated, their impact on the vocal source is still not very clear.

Although positive clinical studies have been reported, neutral and even potentially harmful effects of NMES are also described in the literature. Furthermore, in the studies examined by the authors, the use of different methods of NMES have been identified, which further contributes to the inconsistent results found among studies.

In this study, we attempted to examine how the inhibition of epilepsy-related cholinergic plasticity may be reflected in seizure susceptibility and/or in the development of chronic epilepsy and its neurological consequences. For this purpose, adult Wistar rats received intrahippocampal injections of low doses of 192-IgG-saporin (SAP) to produce a moderate, but significant loss of septohippocampal cholinergic cells and to suppress their plasticity.

Thereby, the goal of this study was to evaluate if the selective pressure exerted by the presence of the herbicides atrazine, diuron and 2,4-D changes the bacterial community structure of an agricultural soil, using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis technique. According to PERMANOVA analysis, a greater effect of the herbicide persistence time in the soil, the effect of the herbicide class and the effect of interaction between these two factors (persistence time and herbicide class) were observed.

The purpose of this experimental study was to determine flow-pressure relationship, flow thresholds between bubble types, and bubble frequency as a function of flow and back volume.
Methods: A flow-driven vocal tract simulator was used for recording the back pressure produced by resonance tubes with inner diameters of 8 and 9 mm submerged at water depths of 0-7 cm.
The septohippocampal cholinergic neurotransmission has long been implicated in seizures, but little is known about the structural features of this projection system in epileptic brain. We evaluated the effects of experimental epilepsy on the areal density of cholinergic terminals (fiber varicosities) in the dentate gyrus. For this purpose, we used two distinct post-status epilepticus rat models, in which epilepsy was induced with injections of either kainic acid or pilocarpine.

This study aims at exploring static back pressure and ball height as function of flow for two devices, marketed as flow ball and floating ball game.
Study Design: This is a comparative descriptive study.
The main sulfate-reducing (SRB) and sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB) in six wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) located at southern Brazil were described based on high-throughput sequencing of the 16S rDNA. Specific taxa of SRB and SOB were correlated with some abiotic factors, such as the source of the wastewater, oxygen content, sample type, and physical chemical attributes of these WWTPs. When the 22 families of SRB and SOB were clustered together, the samples presented a striking distribution, demonstrating grouping patterns according to the sample type.

While the nature of this comorbidity is not fully understood, multiple lines of evidence suggest that changes in serotonin (5-HT) neurotransmission may be an underlying mechanism. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that chronic epilepsy in rats can be associated with loss of 5-HT neurons in the dorsal raphe (DR) nuclear complex, the main source of 5-HT projections to the cerebral cortex, which would help to explain respective behavioral deficits.

This strategy has brought questions about the endophytic microbiota associated with these plants along its manipulation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the composition of the endophytic bacterial communities associated with two explants sources [the canopy branches (CB) and the trunk base of the tree (TB)] under prolonged in vitro cultivation.

SOVTE change the acoustic vocal tract impedance in relation to the glottis impedance, improving voice quality. However, differences among SOVTE, such as the number of vibration sources into the vocal tract, are often disregarded by clinicians.

However, in a subset of rats, kainic acid treatment does not induce overt behaviorally obvious acute SE. The goal of this study was to compare the neuroanatomical and behavioral changes induced by kainate in rats that developed convulsive SE to those who did not.

Many singers agree that something occurs at the level of the vocal folds to aid the demand for higher frequencies.
