Article Synopsis
  • Dengue virus (DENV) poses a significant global health threat, affecting about two-thirds of the world's population, primarily transmitted by mosquitoes and leading to severe illnesses like dengue shock syndrome.
  • The severe manifestations of DENV are associated with inflammatory responses and the activation of platelets and leukocytes, which contribute to complications like hypovolemic shock and organ failure.
  • Current research is focused on understanding the interaction between platelets and leukocytes in DENV's pathogenesis and whether anti-inflammatory or anticoagulant treatments can alleviate severe symptoms and prevent further tissue damage.
