Thyroid hormone receptor alpha (THR) is a nuclear hormone receptor that binds triiodothyronine (T3) and acts as an important transcription factor in development, metabolism, and reproduction. The coding gene, , has two major splicing isoforms in mammals, and , which encode THR1 and THR1, respectively. The better characterized isoform, THR1, is a transcriptional stimulator of genes involved in cell metabolism and growth.

However, these negative outcomes have been studied mostly in alcohol-only use contexts. Little is known about the combination of alcohol, marijuana, SAM, and food restriction.

Despite evidence of developmental health consequences to offspring and birthing person, there has been a reduction in the perception of PCU-related harms. Due to the stigma and risk of legal consequences associated with disclosing PCU, individuals are often cautious to seek information from their healthcare providers.

Design: This non-inferiority randomised clinical trial, took place at Odense University Hospital, Odense, Denmark. In a first visit, participants were tested with traditional audiometry as well as user-operated audiometry and filled in the Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (SSQ12) at baseline.
Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is a rare, locally aggressive, highly vascularized benign tumor classically found in males from 13 to 20 years old. The most common clinical presentations are recurrent epistaxis and nasal congestion. Imaging plays a significant role in differentiating and determining the extension of nasopharyngeal lesions.

A large-scale survey conducted in the US in 2022 (N = 1,646) assessed self-reported COVID-19 vaccination, trust in science, and reported media consumption. Findings show that, regardless of personal ideology, individuals who consumed less conservative media and had a more ideologically diverse media diet were more likely to be fully vaccinated and boosted.

The involvement of the CAS in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and hemodialysis (HD) has been documented, yet conflicting findings have hindered a comprehensive understanding. This study aimed to investigate whether CAS activation occurs in patients with chronic kidney failure undergoing HD compared with those undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD), patients with CKD not receiving replacement therapy, or healthy controls and to assess the impact of HD on CAS from pre- to post-dialysis during a single session of HD.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFSpatial transcriptomics technologies aim to advance gene expression studies by profiling the entire transcriptome with intact spatial information from a single histological slide. However, the application of spatial transcriptomics is limited by low resolution, limited transcript coverage, complex procedures, poor scalability and high costs of initial setup and/or individual experiments. Seq-Scope repurposes the Illumina sequencing platform for high-resolution, high-content spatial transcriptome analysis, overcoming these limitations.

We tested the prognostic association of these cut-offs in patients with aortic stenosis (AS) with concordantly and discordantly graded AS (CGASEL and DGASEL) based on pressure recovery adjusted aortic valve area (energy loss, EL).
Methods: Data from 1351 patients with asymptomatic AS, peak jet velocity <4m/s and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction enrolled in the Simvastatin and Ezetimibe in AS study was used.
Introduction: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and comorbid cannabis use disorder (CUD) is a growing concern amongst UK veterans. Co-occurrence of problematic cannabis use, and PTSD is associated with greater PTSD symptom severity, decreased likelihood of cannabis use cessation, worse clinical outcomes, and increased societal burden. Despite increased screening efforts among veterans, there are no effective strategies for predicting risk for PTSD and problematic drug use escalation before these conditions develop, worsen, or become chronic.

This study aims to investigate whether infections are associated with subsequent AMI and whether the risk differs across infection sites and age groups.
Methods: Nationwide registers were used to include 702596 adults hospitalized between 1987-2018 with either; pneumonia (n=344319), urinary tract infection (UTI) (n=270101), soft tissue/bone infection (n=66718), central nervous system infection (CNS) (n=17025), or endocarditis (n=4433).
Anthropogenic impact has transitioned from threatening already rare species to causing significant declines in once numerous organisms. Long-tailed duck () and velvet scoter () were once important quarry sea duck species in NW Europe, but recent declines resulted in their reclassification as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. We sequenced and assembled genomes for both species and resequenced 15 individuals of each.

Trial sequential analysis can be used in systematic reviews to control type I and type II errors, but methodological errors including lack of protocols and transparency are cause for concern. We assessed the reporting of trial sequential analysis.

If not identified the complications associated with this condition can lead to high morbidity and mortality and require surgical treatment.
Case: We describe a patient who presented with a tear in prosthesis-prosthesis anastomosis eight years after implantation resulting in a pseudoaneurysm.
Objective: To evaluate a novel user-operated audiometry method allowing users full control in determining their pure-tone hearing thresholds.
Design: Comparative study. Participants were recruited from a hearing clinic after undergoing manual audiometry (six frequencies).
Background: Young adult veterans who served after the September 11 attacks on the United States in 2001 (ie, post-9/11) are at heightened risk for experiencing behavioral health distress and disorders including hazardous drinking, posttraumatic stress disorder, and depression. These veterans often face significant barriers to behavioral health treatment, and reaching them through brief mobile phone-based interventions may help reduce drinking and promote treatment engagement.
Objective: Following a successful pilot study, this randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to further test the efficacy of a brief (ie, single session) mobile phone-delivered personalized normative feedback intervention enhanced with content to promote treatment engagement.
Objectives: To investigate the associations of physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour in early childhood with asthma and reduced lung function in later childhood within a large collaborative study.
Design: Pooling of longitudinal data from collaborating birth cohorts using meta-analysis of separate cohort-specific estimates and analysis of individual participant data of all cohorts combined.
Setting: Children aged 0-18 years from 26 European birth cohorts.
