(1) Background: Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) represents a feasible approach in early-stage ovarian cancer, while this question is still unsolved for advanced and recurrent disease. (2) Methods: In this retrospective, multicenter study, we present a series of 21 patients who underwent MIS for primitive or recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) with bulky nodal metastasis and discuss surgical technique and outcomes in relation to the current literature. (3) Results: Complete cytoreduction at primary debulking surgery was obtained in 86% of cases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is a severe medical condition defined by insufficient vascular supply to the small bowel through mesenteric vessels, resulting in necrosis and eventual gangrene of bowel walls. We present the case of a 64-year-old man with recrudescence of prolonged epigastric pain at rest of few hours duration, cold sweating and episodes of vomiting. A computed tomography scan of his abdomen revealed multiple filling defects in the mid-distal part of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and the proximal part of jejunal branches, associated with small intestine walls thickening, suggesting SMA thromboembolism and initial intestinal ischemia.

This is a report of the infrequent use of an endovascular solution to successfully treat ATAAA in a patient with COVID-19 viral pneumonia and ischaemia induced lower extremity neurological deficits.
Report: An 89 year old white male, with a history of cardiovascular comorbidities was admitted to the emergency room with dyspnoea associated with the sudden onset of abdominal and back pain followed by partial motor and sensory deficits in both legs.
Objective: We report our experience with simultaneous localization and thoracoscopic removal for nonpalpable undiagnosed pulmonary nodules.
Methods: All patients with nonpalpable lesions requiring video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) wedge resection underwent localization of the targets and surgical removal in a hybrid operating room. Lesions were considered nonpalpable if they were small (<1 cm), deep (>1 cm from the surface), subsolid, or located within a dystrophic area.
Formalin fixation and paraffin embedding (FFPE) represent the standard method to preserve tissue specimens for diagnostic pathology, however formalin fixation induces severe fragmentation of nucleic acids. We investigated whether formalin fixation at 4°C could preserve DNA integrity in FFPE specimens. Paired samples from 38 specimens were formalin fixed at room temperature () and at 4°C (), respectively.

Although the treatment choice remains debatable, due to the poor condition of the patient, the lesion was excluded by using a balloon-expandable covered stent with a satisfactory early-term outcome.

The authors used the Female Sexual Function Index to assess the effect of pelvic floor muscle training on female sexual function. Participants included women with stress urinary incontinence, without overactive bladder symptoms, who completed a 3-month pelvic floor muscle training.

A total of 2148 patients (592 premenopausal, 1556 postmenopausal) were classified into subgroups according to BMI distribution. High BMI was significantly associated with larger size tumor both in pre (p = 0.

Materials And Methods: From January 2002 to September 2009, we used an endovascular approach to treat 30 patients (22 men, eight women) affected by aneurysm (n=18) or pseudoaneurysm (n=13) of the splenic (n=11), hepatic (n=6), renal (n=5), pancreaticoduodenal (n=3), left gastric (n=2), gastroduodenal (n=1), rectal (n=1) or middle colic (n=1) arteries and the coeliac axis (n=1). Of these, 26/31 were treated with metal coils, 3/31 with Cardiatis multilayer stent, 1/31 with a coated stent and 1/31 with coils and Amplatzer plug.

Introduction: Breast cancer and its treatment negatively affect the important aspects of a woman's life such as sexual health, cognitive functions, body image, and weight. Abrupt estrogen deficiency following chemotherapy and/or hormonal therapy plays an important role in worsening of sexuality.
Aim: To evaluate the impact of breast cancer treatment on sexual functioning, cognitive function, and body weight in premenopausal women.
The study aim is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of two low-dose vaginal estrogen treatments (ETs) and of a non-hormonal vaginal moisturizer in postmenopausal breast cancer survivors with urogenital atrophy. Eighteen patients receiving estriol cream 0.25 mg (n = 10) or estradiol tablets 12.

The secondary objective was to evaluate the effect of the treatments on the quality of sleep and other aspects of the quality of life.
Methods: A hot flush diary was completed daily; sleep quality and other menopausal symptoms were assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and the SF-36 Health Survey.
A bus driver came to our observation after an occupational traffic accident due to a syncopal event. The positive result of the tilt testing demonstrated the neurally-mediated nature of the syncope. The accident involved approximately 40 people (all the bus passengers), fortunately without severe injuries or deaths.

A prospective pilot trial was conducted in 40 breast cancer patients with at least seven HF per day. A HF diary was completed daily; sleep quality and other menopausal symptoms were assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and the SF-36 Health Survey.

Thousands of women are treated each year for gynaecological cancers; many of these are already in menopause, while other younger patients will go into early menopause due to surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy to the pelvic region. The aim of this paper is to review the biological and clinical evidence in favour and against hormone replacement therapy (HRT) use after gynaecological cancers. With the exception of breast and endometrial cancer, there is no biological evidence that HRT may increase the recurrence risk.
