Global fluctuation dispersion (FDglobal), a spatial-temporal metric derived from serial images of the pulmonary perfusion obtained with MRI-arterial spin labeling, describes temporal fluctuations in the spatial distribution of perfusion. In healthy subjects, FDglobal is increased by hyperoxia, hypoxia, and inhaled nitric oxide. We evaluated patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH, 4F, aged 47 ± 15, mean pulmonary artery pressure 48 ± 7 mmHg) and healthy controls (CON, 7F, aged 47 ± 12) to test the hypothesis that FDglobal is increased in PAH.

Proton magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to quantify regional ventilation-perfusion ( ) ratios combines specific ventilation imaging (SVI) and separate proton density and perfusion measures into a composite map. Specific ventilation imaging exploits the paramagnetic properties of O , which alters the local MR signal intensity, in an F O -dependent manner. Specific ventilation imaging data are acquired during five wash-in/wash-out cycles of breathing 21% O alternating with 100% O over ~20 min.

Anti-citrullinated peptide/protein antibodies (ACPAs) are highly sensitive and specific markers of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Identification of peptide epitopes that may detect different subgroups of RA patients might have diagnostic and prognostic significance. Haplotype tagging SNPs of interleukin-23 receptor gene rs1004819, rs7517847, rs7530511, rs2201841, rs1343151 and rs10889677 were determined in 396 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, 190 patients with Crohn's disease, 206 patients with ankylosing spondylitis and 182 controls. Using regression analysis models the rs1004819, rs2201841, and rs10889677 SNPs were found to confer risk for Crohn's disease and ankylosing spondylitis, while rs1343151 had a protective effect in both of these diseases, and the rs2201841 and rs10889677 SNPs showed susceptibility nature for rheumatoid arthritis. Using these SNPs we could study the susceptibility haplotype profiles in these diseases with special attention to the rheumatoid arthritis, first in the literature.

Methods: OCP crystal-induced inflammation was monitored using a peritoneal model of inflammation in mice with different deficiencies affecting interleukin-1 (IL-1) secretion (IL-1α(-/-) , IL-1β(-/-) , ASC(-/-) , and NLRP3(-/-) mice) or in mice pretreated with IL-1 inhibitors (anakinra [recombinant IL-1 receptor antagonist] and anti-IL-1β). Basic calcium phosphate (BCP) crystals are associated with severe osteoarthritis and acute periarticular inflammation. Three main forms of BCP crystals have been identified from pathological tissues: octacalcium phosphate, carbonate-substituted apatite, and hydroxyapatite. Recently, associations were found between several autoimmune diseases and functional variants of interleukin-23 receptor (IL23R) gene; here, we studied the possible association of nine polymorphisms of IL23R with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and with Sjögren syndrome (SS). In our study, we genotyped groups of patients with AS (n = 206), SS (n = 156) and healthy controls (n = 235) for rs11805303, rs10889677, rs1004819, rs2201841, rs11209032, rs11209026, rs10489629, rs7517847 and rs7530511 variants using PCR-RFLP methods. We observed significant increase in the carriage of the T allele of rs11805303 and the A allele of rs1004189 in the AS group compared with the controls.
