In 2013, based on the results of an experimental pneumodissection of the cornea, English ophthalmologist H. Dua postulated the existence of a previously unknown pre-Descemet's layer (PDL) with unique characteristics. However, the need to revise the traditional concepts of the corneal structure raises reasonable doubts among many researchers.

The thymus is a lymphoid and also an endocrine organ, and, accordingly, its development and functioning may be impaired by endocrine disruptors. The aim was to evaluate age-related thymus involution in mature rats exposed to the endocrine disruptor DDT during prenatal and postnatal ontogeny.

Decellularized and lyophilized swine intestinal submucosa (SIS) and porous collagen sponge made from reconstructed bovine derma (PCS) were the most effective in promoting MSC adhesion, survival, and growth. MSC from rat and mouse bone marrow and rat adipose tissue successfully adhered to the scaffold surface and penetrated into its deep layers.

Despite extensive research, there is still no vaccine against HCV. In order to induce an immune response in DBA/2J mice against HCV, we obtained modified mouse mesenchymal stem cells (mMSCs) simultaneously expressing five nonstructural HCV proteins (NS3-NS5B).

Cell transplantation to the wound bed did not accelerate wound closing and had no effect on the severity of inflammation, but increased vasculariza - tion of the granulation tissue in 14 days after injury. After injection of conditioned medium to the wound, less pronounced inflammation or enhanced epithelialization was observed.

It is shown that, in the course of passaging, the 5-FU-resistant MSCs of the bone marrow and fetal liver lose their ability to differentiate in the osteogenic direction more and less rapidly, respectively, than the 5-FU-sensitive MSCs.

These cells are routinely isolated by adhesion to plastic, but thus prepared culture is contaminated by other cells. For instance, primary cell culture of from rat fetal liver, apart from fibroblasts with phenotypic characteristics of mesenchymal stromal cells, contained skeletal muscle precursors, myofibroblasts, and epitheliocytes expressing cytokeratin-19 (the latter was also detected in some fibroblast-like cells probably undergoing epithelio-mesenchymal transition).

ES cells have a high proliferative potency and ability to differentiate into all kinds of somatic and germ cells. However, transplantation of undifferentiated ES cells into adult recipient tissue results in the formation of teratomas.
