Disruption of an esophagogastric anastomosis can result in a high mortality despite aggressive treatment. The efficacy of fibrin "glue" to seal esophagogastric anastomoses was evaluated as a means of preventing this complication. A left thoracotomy was performed in 25 adult mongrel dogs.

The complications, cost, and inconvenience associated with pretransplant hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis would be minimized if transplantation were instituted without prior dialysis. That preuremic transplantation is safe and efficacious in patients with immanent end-stage renal disease has not been established. All 1742 consecutive primary renal transplants performed at the University of Minnesota during the 16.

The median age was 58 years (range 4 to 86 years). Either underlying lung disease or immunologic risk factors were present in 49 patients (92%).

Currently, 254 (84%) are alive at 2 months to 18 years following their first transplants, 77% with functioning grafts (188 first, 45 retransplants) and 7% on dialysis. Overall, patient and graft survival were not significantly different from the primary graft outcome of nondiabetic adults.

Bronchial tomography and bronchoscopy revealed a mass in the left mainstem bronchus, identified as a carcinoid tumor after surgical excision.

In North America, cancer of the esophagus and gastric cardia is an endemic disease of low order and stable incidence. Nevertheless, it is responsible for many deaths and considerable suffering.

Representative V. parahaemolyticus strains with a variety of KP reactions and 17 other Vibrio species were examined for homology with four synthetic oligodeoxyribonucleotide probes (19 to 21 bases long) representing different regions of the tdh structural gene.

When reduced, the blue copper protein transferred electrons to the copper protein nitrite reductase purified from the same cells, whereas a variety of cytochromes from denitrifiers failed to do so. Inclusion of a protease inhibitor, phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride, in the buffers employed during preparation yielded purified blue copper protein with 18 more amino acid residues and two times more specific enzyme activity than other researchers have found.

When the nucleotide sequence of these genes is determined, defined sequence oligonucleotides that include a part of these genes may be synthesized. A 22-base DNA hybridization probe was produced for each of 2 heat-stable E.

Cyclosporine did not increase the incidence of delayed graft function, compared with ALG-azathioprine-treated patients (33% versus 27%, P = 0.550) but doubled the mean (+/- SD) duration of oliguria (11.

Its presence in ectopic sites is uncommon. We describe a case of generalized intraperitoneal oxyuris granulomas detected as an incidental finding at laparotomy for tuboovarian abscess.

Formate uncoupled proton translocation in formate-grown Wolinella succinogenes cells supplied with N-oxides as terminal electron acceptors. In suspensions containing KSCN (but not valinomycin), H2 supported proton translocation when NO3-, NO2-, and NO were provided as oxidants. H+/N-oxide ratios were 4.
