The politics of national SDG indicator systems: A comparison of four European countries.

The sustainable development goals (SDGs) constitute an ambitious comprehensive global framework including monitoring mechanisms and indicators to evaluate progress towards precise targets of sustainable development. Most European countries have adapted their national sustainability indicator systems to conform to the UN Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, introducing new indicators and monitoring frameworks and governance processes in which these are embedded. What do we know about the political processes and struggles of implementing this important global framework? How does the politics of indicators differ in national contexts? We propose a classification of national indicator systems along dimensions of indicator selection, appraisal landscape, participatory nature, and political communication.

Use of a Smartphone-Based Device for Fundus Examination in Birds: A Pilot Study.

Ophthalmic examination is essential in the avian triage process in order to apply prompt therapeutic plans and evaluate rehabilitation potential. Fundoscopy is traditionally performed by direct or indirect ophthalmoscopy. Recent technological developments have enabled the design of a small-sized and affordable retinal imaging system to examine the fundus.

Three-Dimensional Lower-Limb Kinematics from Accelerometers and Gyroscopes with Simple and Minimal Functional Calibration Tasks: Validation on Asymptomatic Participants.

The use of inertial measurement units (IMUs) to compute gait outputs, such as the 3D lower-limb kinematics is of huge potential, but no consensus on the procedures and algorithms exists. This study aimed at evaluating the validity of a 7-IMUs system against the optoelectronic system. Ten asymptomatic subjects were included.

LIDAR developments at Clermont-Ferrand--France for atmospheric observation.

We present a Rayleigh-Mie-Raman LIDAR system in operation at Clermont-Ferrand (France) since 2008. The system provides continuous vertical tropospheric profiles of aerosols, cirrus optical properties and water vapour mixing ratio. Located in proximity to the high altitude Puy de Dôme station, labelled as the GAW global station PUY since August 2014, it is a useful tool to describe the boundary layer dynamics and hence interpret in situ measurements.

Zygomatic salivary gland diseases in the dog: three cases diagnosed by MRI.

This article describes three original cases of zygomatic gland disease in the dog diagnosed by low-field MRI and treated by a modified lateral orbitotomy with zygomatic osteotomy. Presenting complaints included exophthalmia, protrusion of the third eyelid, and periorbital swelling without any history of trauma. Low-field MRI allowed for adequate diagnosis of zygomatic gland disease in all cases and provided detailed information about both the specific tissue characteristics of each lesion and extension into surrounding structures.

Retrospective study of 155 cases of prolapse of the nictitating membrane gland in dogs.

A retrospective study of 155 cases (114 dogs). The breed, sex and age at the time of the first and opposite onset of nictitans gland prolapse were recorded. Long-term follow-up with a minimum of one-year duration was performed by telephone conversations.

Primary lens instability in ten related cats: clinical and genetic considerations.

Objectives: To describe bilateral lens instability in 10 related domestic shorthair cats over three generations.

Methods: Complete ophthalmic examinations were performed. Lentectomies were carried out.

A case of conjunctival melanoma in a cat.

Since 1985, 5 cases of feline conjunctival melanoma have been reported in the literature. Information on feline conjunctival melanoma epidemiological features, localizations, macroscopic features and histological features is limited. We are describing the clinical, histopathologic features and outcomes in a cat that presented clinically with a slow developing dark brown mass located under the upper eyelid of the left eye.

Surgical repair of deep melting ulcers with porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS) graft in dogs and cats.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of using a porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS) graft for the surgical repair of deep melting ulcers in dogs and cats.

Methods: Two cats and five dogs presented with deep and large melting ulcers of the cornea. In each case, the necrotic and collagenolytic tissue of the cornea was removed by keratectomy.

A 3D pattern matching algorithm for DNA sequences.

Motivation: Biologists usually work with textual DNA sequences (succession of A, C, G and T). This representation allows biologists to study the syntax and other linguistic properties of DNA sequences. Nevertheless, such a linear coding offers only a local and a one-dimensional vision of the molecule.

Familial aortic aneurysm in Leonberg dogs.

A thoracic aortic aneurysm was diagnosed in a 6-month-old male Leonberg dog by use of radiography, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, and magnetic resonance imaging. The aneurysm was associated with a twisted ascending aorta and dilatation of several other thoracic arteries (pulmonary trunk, brachiocephalic trunk, and left subclavian artery). Histologic examination of the aorta revealed cystic medial necrosis, with disruption of the elastic network, collagen fibers, and the muscle glycoprotein fibrillin-1.

Comparison of lipid composition in two types of human putrefactive liquid.

The decomposition of a human cadaver was stopped after solidification of putrefactive liquid during a GIS Burial experiment. Knowledge of this phenomenon is necessary to optimize burial conditions and to decrease cemetery congestion. In this preliminary study, we devised a method using thin-layer chromatography and gas chromatography to compare different putrefactive liquids.

Neuropeptides from the sinus gland of the lobster Homarus americanus: Characterization of hyperglycemic peptides.

In order to characterize hyperglycemic peptides from the sinus gland of the lobster, Homarus americanus, a bioassay was developed with juvenile H. gammarus. This assay was used for determining the hyperglycemic activity of peptides perified by reversed-phase high-performance liquid-chromatography, from acidic extracts of sinus gland.

Effects of a juvenile hormone mimic on male and female gametogenesis of the mud-crab Rhithropanopeus harrisii (Gould) (Brachyura: Xanthidae).

[Ultrastructure of the testicular germinal zone and of the secondary spermatogonia in normal and destalked brachyuran decapod crustacea].

Ultrastructural study of gonia of various species of male crabs shows that these cells belong to two types : primary and secondary gonia; these are discriminated according to their location inside or outside germinative islets, i. e. by the presence or absence of surrounding somatic tissue.

[Homoplastic transplantation of crayfish testes (Pontastacus leptodactylus leptodactylus (Eschscholtz, 1823)) in sexual rest into normal and destalked males and females: preliminary results].

Implantation of Crayfish testes in sexual rest into females leads to a new onset of spermatogenetic activity characterized by a precocious appearance of spermatocytes. However, these cells degenerate: their evolution never goes further than the pachytene stage of meiosis prophase. Abortive prophases appear continuously; this also takes place in acini which develop secondarily.
