Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed changes in code status for patients experiencing cardiopulmonary arrest in a hospital setting over a ten-year period.
  • Approximately 46.5% of the 1,254 patients experienced a change in code status, with notable differences in age and medical interventions between those who did and did not have changes.
  • Findings suggest that medical comorbidities and treatment interventions played a key role in influencing code status changes, while socioeconomic factors like insurance, ethnicity, and education were not significantly impactful.

The risk of embolic stroke is 5 times higher among patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) compared with those without AF. More than 90% of thrombi form in the left atrial appendage (LAA) in AF. The purpose of this review is to determine the efficacy and safety of the left atrial appendage (LAA) closure via a percutaneous LAA ligation approach, thus preventing a stroke among patients with AF and contraindication to oral anticoagulant therapy.
