In the present study, a comprehensive proteomic analysis of Brucella melitensis (B. melitensis) strain ATCC23457 was carried out to investigate proteome alterations in response to in vitro-induced nutrient stress. Our analysis resulted in the identification of 2440 proteins, including 365 hypothetical proteins and 850 potentially secretory proteins representing ~77.

Article Synopsis
  • The study developed a targeted mass spectrometry method to identify protein biomarkers for brucellosis in humans and livestock.
  • It involved creating synthetic peptides from the Brucella proteome and optimizing assays using serum samples to detect specific peptides related to the disease.
  • A key finding was that the peptide NAIYDVVTR was consistently detected in confirmed cases with 100% specificity, paving the way for more accurate brucellosis diagnostics.
