Introduction: The incidence of the malignant tumors of the salivary glands is relatelively low. However, rapid locoregional progression, distant metastases occurrence and high local recurrence rate occurring despite radical surgical treatment, significantly affect the outcome. Malignant tumors of the salivary glands are characterized by low radiosensitivity and poor response to systemic therapy.

Aim: The aim is to find out why the rate of recurrence of tongue and floor of the mouth cancer is so high despite radical surgical treatment combined with radiochemotherapy.
Background: Oropharyngeal cancer is the second most common head and neck cancer in Poland. Tongue cancers account for 40% of all oral cavity tumours.
Unlabelled: Her-2/neu is overexpressed in 20-30% of breast cancer patients and is associated with a more aggressive disease. Identification of Her-2/c-erbB-2-neu overexpression is based on immunohistochemical [ihc] detection of protein and/or gene amplification in fluorescence in situ hybridization test (FISH). Also Estrogen receptors [ER] and Progesterone receptors [PR] are the prognostic and predictive biomarkers, recently analysed by ihc methods.

Material was obtained from 49 patients (32 females and 17 males) with primary hyperparahyroidism. Quantitative immunohistochemistry studies of Ki-67, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and bcl-2 were performed on digital microscopy images with the use of 3D visualization.
