A new biosorbent for Cr(VI) sequestration was investigated from betel nut waste (BNW), , by HSO charring. Aqueous insolubility and Cr(VI) uptake capacity of native BNW were potentially improved after HSO modification due to cross-linking reaction of betel nut cellulose, thereby creating suitable complexation sites for Cr(VI) ion removal. Langmuir isotherm and pseudo second order (PSO) kinetic models described well with the experimental data.

Comparison of Volatile Constituents Present in Commercial and Lab-Distilled Frankincense () Essential Oils for Authentication.

A comparative analysis of the chemical constituents present in twenty-one commercial and two lab-distilled frankincense () essential oils was carried out using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and chiral gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (CGC-MS) for authentication. Out of the twenty-one commercial samples, six were adulterated with synthetic limonene, three were contaminated with synthetic octyl acetate, three were adulterated with castor oil, and two samples each were contaminated with frankincense resin and species, respectively, and one was contaminated with the species. Additionally, one sample was contaminated with phthalates as well as a cheap essential oil with similar compositions.

Acute Ischemic Stroke Treatment Using Mechanical Thrombectomy: A Study of 137 Patients.

Background: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is the most effective treatment in large vessel occlusion (LVO). We have analyzed our initial experience of MT of 137 patients in anterior circulation (AC) and posterior circulation (PC) LVO using Solitaire stent retriever device.

Methods: Retrospective cohort analysis of 112 AC and 25 PC acute ischemic strokes was done considering various baseline characteristics, risk factors, National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) change, revascularization rate, complications, and functional outcome at 3 months using modified Rankin score.

Aphemia as a presenting symptom in acute stroke.

Aphemia is an apraxia of speech characterized by complete articulatory failure in the presence of preserved writing, comprehension and oropharyngeal function and can be the presenting manifestation of acute stroke. The responsible lesion is commonly in the left inferior frontal gyrus or the left motor cortex near the face M1 area. Three patients who developed aphemia due to acute ischemic stroke are described here.
