Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate the accessibility and localization of spinal accessory and suprascapular nerves in the suprascapular region in healthy volunteers using ultrasonography.

Methods: One hundred healthy volunteers were included and the location of the spinal accessory nerve (SAN) and suprascapular nerve (SSN) was assessed in the right suprascapular region.

Findings: Seventy men and 30 women, (mean age 40.

  • A survey investigated the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of physicians regarding pain management in neonates, revealing that 87% understood neonatal pain perception but only 57.3% had a formal pain management policy.
  • While 66% were aware of pain assessment tools, none utilized them, and only 44.3% were satisfied with their pain management despite using analgesics like midazolam and fentanyl.
  • There is a notable hesitance towards opioid use, with 55% believing they should not be used in neonates, yet 86% administered fentanyl, indicating a need for improved pain management strategies in neonatal intensive care.

The normal ability to distinguish two points from one is known as the two-point discriminative (2PD) sense. This forms an extremely important assessment in patient with injuries to the nerves distributed to the upper extremity.  The aim of this study was to estimate the normal reference values of static 2PD in healthy adults and children.

This article aims to establish the relative thumb length in comparison to the index finger in central Indian adults.  Five hundred normal adult hands (1,000 thumbs), 316 men and 184 women, mean age 30 years, were included in the study. The relative length of the thumb was measured using the length of the proximal phalanx of the index finger (thumb-proximal phalanx index) and the distance between the proximal digital crease and proximal interphalangeal crease of the index finger (thumb-digital crease index).

  • The study aims to establish clinical normative data for ulna length in children aged 1 day to 18 years across India, measuring various factors including age, sex, BMI, and hand dominance.
  • A total of 1,300 healthy children were analyzed, showing gradual ulna lengthening as they age, with significant differences in males at certain ages and a notable increase in length among obese children.
  • The findings indicate that age, gender, and geographical location influenced ulna length, but factors like BMI and hand dominance were not significant after maturity, providing valuable data for pediatric healthcare.

  • Drainage after axillary lymph node dissection can lead to significant complications and discomfort for patients.
  • The study assessed the effectiveness of using a combination of topical epinephrine and systemic tranexamic acid to manage outcomes post-surgery.
  • Results showed that this approach lowered hospital stays while maintaining similar seroma rates, allowing for drainage avoidance altogether.

  • Percutaneous ultrasound-guided microwave ablation (MWA) and transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) are compared for treating benign solitary thyroid nodules in a prospective study between January 2022 and December 2023.!
  • Results showed that while MWA demonstrated a nodule volume reduction of 75.1% after 12 months, TOETVA achieved a full 100% reduction, highlighting TOETVA's superior effectiveness.!
  • Initially, patients in the MWA group reported better quality of life scores at one week post-op, but by 12 months, the TOETVA group showed significantly improved thyroid-related and swallowing-related quality of life scores compared to MWA.

  • A study in central India explored the reasons behind the low uptake of post mastectomy breast reconstruction among breast cancer patients.
  • The research involved interviewing 192 patients, all of whom ultimately chose not to undergo any form of reconstruction despite a 24-month follow-up period.
  • Key reasons for not opting for reconstruction included the desire to avoid extra surgery and the perception that reconstruction wasn't important, along with financial and logistical barriers impacting care.

Introduction: It is important for the endoscopic thyroid surgeon to understand the pros and cons of trans-oral endoscopic thyroidectomy-vestibular approach (TOETVA) vis-à-vis, open conventional thyroidectomy (OTx) so he/she can help patients in making informed choices regarding the type of procedure to opt for. Swallowing related quality of life (SWAL-QoL) has not been compared between the two approaches. Using a rigorous qualitative methodology and validated reliable tool, this study set out to compare the swallowing related quality of life in patients undergoing TOETVA versus OTx.

Using a flap in a large wound with a very small area of exposed vital structures may be an excessive intrusion and cause unnecessary donor site morbidity. Dermal matrix (DuraGen) was applied onto critical areas where bone or tendons were exposed and a split skin graft was placed thereon. All patients had satisfactory wound closure without the need for a flap.

Postoperative monitoring of skin flaps is subjective and cannot detect early circulatory problems in the flap. Early detection and rapid remedial re-exploration are important for flap salvage. We evaluated flap glucose measurement to monitor the flaps for early detection of circulatory problems.

Unlabelled: Long-term quality of life in breast cancer patients has been studied and published regularly. However, the lived experiences of patients who develop complications after surgery are not well understood. Determining this experience of patients is challenging in most low- and middle-income countries where the majority of patients belong to poor strata of society and are uneducated.

  • The study focuses on a surgical approach called the flip-flap repair technique for treating giant ventral hernias (GVHs) with domain loss, assessing its effectiveness and complications.
  • Conducted on 21 patients at a teaching hospital in central India, the technique uses the hernia sac to create layered flaps that encase a Polypropylene mesh, minimizing contact with internal organs.
  • Results showed a mean follow-up of 22.3 months, with a 38% occurrence of surgical site issues (mainly infections), but no instances of mesh removal or hernia recurrence, indicating the technique's safety and efficacy across various patient profiles.
