Objectives: To evaluate the prognostic value (total mortality + repeated hospitalization for heart failure (HF)) of ultrasound diagnostic methods in patients with acute decompensated HF (ADHF).

Methods: The subjects were patients with chronic HF, who were hospitalized for ADHF. Using ultrasound methods-lung ultrasound, ultrasound assessment of hepatic venous congestion as per the venous excess ultrasound (VExUS) protocol, and indirect elastometry-we assessed the number of B-lines, hepatic venous congestion, and liver density of the patients.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the profile of serum autoantibodies and their diagnostic and pathogenetic significance in ovarian endometrioma (OEM) and deep infiltrative endometriosis (DIE). The study enrolled 74 patients with endometriosis (Group 1), including 53 patients with OEM (Subgroup 1a); 21 patients with DIE without ovarian lesions (Subgroup 1b); and 27 patients without endometriosis (Group 2). The diagnosis was confirmed by laparoscopic surgery and histologic examination of resected tissues.

This preliminary limited study considers the possibility of the same source identification of consecutively 3D printed components using polymer filament by the examination of deposition artifacts as distinctive macroscopic and microscopic surface characteristics upon the surface of 3D printed objects. Hot-end printer nozzle deposition using polymer filaments can create distinctive surface characteristics upon 3D FDM-printed manufactured objects that can be identified, examined, and compared. Such artifacts can occur as repeatable patterns known as 'deposition striae', 'detachment points', and 'start points' upon the surfaces of an object and on consecutively manufactured components that have used the same 3D Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) printer hardware.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of ten energy metabolism factors: C-peptide, ghrelin, GIP, GLP-1, glucagon, insulin, leptin, PAI-1 (total), resistin, and visfatin, and to determine the expression of GLP1R receptors, CD10, CD26 proteases, and pro-inflammatory marker CD86 by macrophages in the peritoneal fluid (PF) in patients with endometriosis. Small-vessel vasculitis has a broad differential with similar clinical presentation and laboratory abnormalities, including petechial rashes, neurologic symptoms, glomerulonephritis, and abnormal inflammatory markers. Biopsy-based diagnosis is critical as the treatment varies by etiology. We report a case of a 41-year-old man with diagnosed cryoglobulinemia and hepatitis C presenting with a petechial rash, altered mental status, and acute kidney injury and ultimately found to have proteinase 3 (PR3)-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-positive vasculitis secondary to infective endocarditis.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (OC) ranks first in the number of deaths among diseases of the female reproductive organs. Identification of OC at early stages is highly beneficial for the treatment but is highly challenging due to the asymptomatic or low-symptom disease development. In this study, lipid extracts of venous blood samples from 41 female volunteers, including 28 therapy-naive patients with histologically verified high-grade serous ovarian cancer at different stages (5 patients with I-II stages; 23 patients with III-IV stages) and 13 apparently healthy women of reproductive age, were profiled by high-performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS).

The myocardium of children with tetralogy of Fallot (TF) undergoes hemodynamic overload and hypoxemia immediately after birth. Comparative analysis of changes in the ploidy and morphology of the right ventricular cardiomyocytes in children with TF in the first years of life demonstrated their significant increase compared with the control group. In children with TF, there was a predominantly diffuse distribution of Connexin43-containing gap junctions over the cardiomyocytes sarcolemma, which redistributed into the intercalated discs as cardiomyocytes differentiation increased.

A comparative analysis of the cell surface markers and immunological properties of cell cultures originating from normal endometrium and endometrioid heterotopias of women with extragenital endometriosis was carried out. Both types of cell cultures expressed surface molecules typical of mesenchymal stromal cells and did not express hematopoietic and epithelial markers. Despite similar phenotype, the mesenchymal stromal cells derived from the two sources had different immunomodulation capacities: the cells of endometrioid heterotopias but not eutopic endometrium could suppress dendritic cell differentiation from monocytes as well as lymphocyte proliferation in allogeneic co-cultures.

Endometriosis is characterized by the formation and development of endometrial tissues outside the uterus, based on an imbalance between proliferation and cell death, leading to the uncontrolled growth of ectopic foci. The potential target for the regulation of these processes is the endocannabinoid system, which was found to be involved in the migration, proliferation, and survival of tumor cells. Endometriosis is a common estrogen-dependent chronic disease in women of reproductive age; it is associated with dysregulation of the immune response, local inflammation, and increased formation of autoantibodies. The aim of the study was to investigate the profile of autoantibodies in women with endometriosis and to evaluate their diagnostic value using new modifications of enzyme immunoassay. In women with endometriosis of stage III-IV (n=39), a wide spectrum of autoantibodies was detected, mainly of class G, including antibodies to endometrial antigens (tropomyosin 3, tropomodulin 3), the enzyme α-enolase, steroid (estradiol, progesterone) and gonadotropic hormones.

Today pre-eclampsia (PE) is considered as a disease of various theories; still all of them agree that endothelial dysfunction is the leading pathogenic factor. Endothelial dysfunction is a sequence of permanent immune activation, resulting in the change of both the phenotype and the functions of an endothelial cell and of the extracellular layer associated with the cell membrane-endothelial glycocalyx (eGC). Numerous studies demonstrate that eGC mediates and regulates the key functions of endothelial cells including regulation of vascular tone and thromboresistance; and these functions are disrupted during PE.

Concentrations of eight different cytokines and the level of expression of CD86 and CD163 macrophages were studied in peritoneal fluid in women with endometriosis. It was found that the concentration of both inflammatory (IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α) and anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-4) as well as the level of macrophage expression of the proinflammatory marker CD86 and anti-inflammatory marker CD163 increased in women with mild external genital endometriosis (1-2 stage), and did not differ from the control group in women with severe endometriosis (3-4 stage). The content of IL-2, IL-10, CM-CSF and IFN-γ in the peritoneal fluid of women with endometriosis did not differ significantly from the control group.

We performed a comparative study of the cytotoxic effect of endocannabinoid N-arachidonoyl dopamine (AA-DA) on cultured stromal cells of ectopic and eutopic endometrium. It was found that AA-DA in the concentration range of 1-20 μM produces more selective cytotoxic effect on the stromal cells of the ectopic endometrium due to interaction with cannabinoid type 1 receptor. In concentrations below 1 μM, AA-DA stimulated the proliferation of stromal cells of the eutopic endometrium and did not affect the division of ectopic endometrium cells.

Seminal plasma (SP) is thought to be a crucial factor which affects the expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in female reproductive tract during embryo implantation. We propose that seminal transforming growth factor (TGF) β1 is responsible for local accumulation of circulating Tregs, which manifests as changes in Treg frequency in peripheral blood, whereas seminal interleukin (IL) 18 interferes with TGF-β1-dependent cellular reactions. The purpose of the present study is to determine whether the frequency of circulating Tregs is associated with the levels of seminal cytokines and pregnancy establishment in women exposed to partner's SP during in vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycle.

Bats harbor many viruses asymptomatically, including several notorious for causing extreme virulence in humans. To identify differences between antiviral mechanisms in humans and bats, we sequenced, assembled, and analyzed the genome of Rousettus aegyptiacus, a natural reservoir of Marburg virus and the only known reservoir for any filovirus. We found an expanded and diversified KLRC/KLRD family of natural killer cell receptors, MHC class I genes, and type I interferons, which dramatically differ from their functional counterparts in other mammals.

We studied the effect of mesenchymal stromal cells on proliferation of CFSE-stained T cells in mixed and membrane-separated (Transwell) cultures and in 3D culture of mesenchymal stromal cells from Wharton's jelly. The interaction of mesenchymal stromal cells with mitogen-activated peripheral blood lymphocytes from an allogeneic donor was followed by suppression of T-cell proliferation in a wide range of cell proportions. Culturing in the Transwell system showed the absence of suppression assessed by the fraction of proliferating cells and by the cell cycle analysis.

A massage with the potent counter-inflammatory material, cerium dioxide nanoparticles, is promising and the antioxidant properties of CeO are considered the main, if not the only, mechanism of this action. Nevertheless, the elimination of ceria nano-particles from the organism is very slow and there is a strong concern for toxic effect of ceria due to its accumulation. To overcome this problem, we engineered a combined material in which cerium nanoparticles were immobilized on the surface of silica nanoparticles (CeO NP), which is shown to be easily removed from an organism and could be used as carriers for nano-ceria.
