In this work, the influence of protonation on the kinetics and thermodynamics of extraction of the Am/Eu pair using N-heterocyclic dicarboxylic acid diamide ,'-diethyl-,'-bis(4-ethylphenyl)-[2,2'-bipyridine]-6,6'-dicarboxamide () was investigated. The extraction efficiency of the ligand did not decrease, even at a nitric acid concentration 4 times higher than that of the ligand in the organic phase. X-ray diffraction analysis established that protonation leads to the preorganization of the ligand due to the reversal of bipyridyl rings into the binding conformation when both nitrogen atoms are turned to one side.

Cholestasis caused by impaired bile secretion in the liver is associated with the accumulation of primary bile acids (BA): cholic acid (CA) and chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) in the cells of this organ. The paper studies the uncoupling effect of the CA and CDCA on the succinate-fueled rat liver mitochondria under conditions of ΔpH to Δψ conversion by nigericin. It has been established that without nigericin, the dependence of the resting-state (state 4) respiration rate on the concentrations of these BA is nonlinear and is described by a parabolic equation.

In recent years, polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) has emerged as a powerful method for the straightforward synthesis of polymer nanoparticles at high concentration. In this study, we describe for the first time the synthesis of poly(2-oxazoline) nanoparticles by dispersion cationic ring-opening polymerization-induced self-assembly (CROPISA) in n-dodecane. Specifically, a n-dodecane-soluble aliphatic poly(2-(3-ethylheptyl)-2-oxazoline) (PEHOx) block was chain-extended with poly(2-phenyl-2-oxazoline) (PPhOx).

Amphiphilic gradient copolymers are promising alternatives to block copolymers for self-assembled nanomaterials due to their straightforward synthesis via statistical copolymerization of monomers with different reactivities and hydrophilicity. By carefully selecting monomers, nanoparticles can be synthesized in a single step through gradient copolymerization-induced self-assembly (gPISA). We synthesized highly sensitive F MRI nanotracers via aqueous dispersion gPISA of hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) with core-forming ,-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)acrylamide (TFEAM).

This study outlines the microfluidic (MF) controlled self-assembly of polylactide (PLA)-based linear and graft copolymers. The PLA-based copolymers (PLA-Cs) were synthesized through a convenient one-pot/one-step ROP/RAFT technique. Three distinct vinyl monomers-triethylene glycol methacrylate (TEGMA), 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (HPMA), and -(2-hydroxypropyl) methacrylamide (HPMAA) were employed to prepare various copolymers: linear thermoresponsive polylactide--poly(triethylene glycol methacrylate) (PLA--PTEGMA), graft pseudothermoresponsive poly[-(2-hydroxypropyl)] methacrylate--polylactide (PHPMA--PLA), and graft amphiphilic poly[-(2-hydroxypropyl)] methacrylamide--polylactide (PHPMAA--PLA).

Hyaluronic acid is an excellent biocompatible material for applications. Its ability to bind CD44, a cell receptor involved in numerous biological processes, predetermines HA-based nanomaterials as unique carrier for therapeutic and theranostic applications. Although numerous methods for the synthesis of hyaluronic acid nanoparticles (HANPs) are available today, their low reproducibility and wide size distribution hinder the precise assessment of the effect on the organism.

The permeability and responsiveness of polymer membranes are absolutely relevant in the design of polymersomes for cargo delivery. Accordingly, we herein correlate the structural features, permeability, and responsiveness of doxorubicin-loaded (DOX-loaded) nonresponsive and stimuli-responsive polymersomes with their in vitro and in vivo antitumor performance. Polymer vesicles were produced using amphiphilic block copolymers containing a hydrophilic poly[-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide] (PHPMA) segment linked to poly[-(4-isopropylphenylacetamide)ethyl methacrylate] (PPPhA, nonresponsive block), poly[4-(4,4,5,5-tetra-methyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)benzyl methacrylate] [PbAPE, reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive block], or poly[2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PDPA, pH-responsive block).

The purpose of this work was to quantitatively characterize the effectiveness of oxidative phosphorylation uncouplers and decoupling agents in functionally active mitochondria, taking into account their content in the hydrophobic region of the inner membrane of these organelles. When conducting theoretical studies, it is accepted that uncouplers and decouplers occupy part of the volume of mitochondria to exhibit their activity, which is defined as the effective volume. The following quantities characterizing the action of these reagents are considered: (1) concentrations of reagents that cause double stimulation of mitochondrial respiration in state 4 ( ); (2) effective distribution coefficient ( ) - the ratio of the amount of reagents in the effective volume of mitochondria and the water volume; (3) the relative amount of reagents associated with the effective volume of mitochondria ( ); (4) specific activity of reagents localized in the effective volume of mitochondria ( ).

Studying the initial molecular mechanisms of the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD), primarily in the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system, is one of the priorities in neurology. Of particular interest is elucidating these mechanisms in the preclinical stage of PD, which lasts decades before diagnosis and is therefore not available for study in patients. Therefore, our main goal was to study the initial molecular mechanisms of the pathogenesis of PD in the striatum, the key center for dopamine regulation in motor function, in a mouse model of the earliest preclinical stage of PD, from 1 to 24 h after the administration of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP).

Recently, suitably sized polymer-based nanogels containing functional groups for the binding of biologically active substances and ultimately degradable to products that can be removed by glomerular filtration have become extensively studied systems in the field of drug delivery. Herein, we designed and tailored the synthesis of hydrophilic and biodegradable poly[-(2-hydroxypropyl) methacrylamide-co-,'-bis(acryloyl) cystamine-6-methacrylamidohexanoyl hydrazine] (PHPMA-BAC-BMH) nanogels. The facile and versatile dispersion polymerization enabled the preparation of nanogels with a diameter below 50 nm, which is the key parameter for efficient and selective passive tumor targeting.
