Correction for 'Mass-tagged aminated probes for rapid discovery of azaphilic natural products in fungal crude extracts' by Victor Flon , , 2024, https://doi.org/10.1039/D4CC05122J.

Reactivity-based screening (RBS) was used to screen fungal crude extracts for the presence of new azaphilic natural products. A probe composed of a nucleophilic primary amine and an isotopic mass tag was designed for its reactivity towards azaphilic compounds. Addition of the probe to crude extracts of fungal complexes, together with analytical tools for dereplication such as haloseeker and molecular networking, allowed easy detection of azaphilic compounds.

In Chronic Heart Failure (CHF) patients, psychological and cognitive variables and their association with treatment adherence have been extensively reported in the literature, but few are the investigations in older people. The present study aimed to evaluate the psychological, cognitive, and adherence to treatment profile of older (>65 years) CHF patients, the interrelation between these variables, and identify possible independent predictors of self-reported treatment adherence. CHF inpatients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation were assessed for: anxiety, depression, cognitive impairment, positive and negative affect, and self-reported adherence (adherence antecedents, pharmacological adherence, and non-pharmacological adherence).

Article Synopsis
  • Azaphilones are pigments produced by fungi with a complex chemical structure, gaining attention for their potential uses in various industries including food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Research on their biosynthesis is evolving, with recent advances in genomic techniques helping to clarify how these compounds are produced in fungi.
  • This review focuses specifically on the genomic insights into azaphilonoid biosynthesis, marking the first comprehensive look at this topic from a genomic perspective.

Marine endophytic fungi from under-explored locations are a promising source for the discovery of new bioactivities. Different endophytic fungi were isolated from plants and marine organisms collected from Wadi El-Natrun saline lakes and the Red Sea near Hurghada, Egypt. The isolated strains were grown on three different media, and their ethyl acetate crude extracts were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity against a panel of pathogenic bacteria and fungi as well as their antioxidant properties.

Background: The association among psychological, neuropsychological dysfunctions and functional/clinical variables in Chronic Heart Failure (CHF) has been extensively addressed in literature. However, only a few studies investigated those associations in the older population.

Purpose: To evaluate the psychological/neuropsychological profile of older CHF patients, to explore the interrelation with clinical/functional variables and to identify potential independent predictors of patients' functional status.

Traditional natural products discovery workflows implying a combination of different targeting strategies, including structure- and/or bioactivity-based approaches, afford no information about new compound structures until late in the discovery pipeline. By integrating a MS/MS prediction module and a collaborative library of (bio)chemical transformations, we have developed a new platform, coined MetWork, that is capable of anticipating the structural identity of metabolites starting from any identified compound. In our quest to discover new monoterpene indole alkaloids, we demonstrate the utility of the MetWork platform by anticipating the structures of five previously undescribed sarpagine-like -oxide alkaloids that have been targeted and isolated from the leaves of using a molecular networking-based dereplication strategy fueled by computer-generated annotations.

Background: There is lack of noninvasive indices to detail the right side cardiovascular physiology. Total isovolumic time (tIVT) is a sensitive marker of left ventricular electromechanical efficiency and systolic-diastolic interaction. The aim of the study was to evaluate normal reference value of the right ventricular tIVT with increasing age.

The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of aspirin and indomethacin on epidermal growth factor (EGF) secretion in duodenal tissue fragments cultivated in vitro. The fragments were obtained from healthy subjects by gastroscopy, cultured in McCoy's medium and gassed with 95% O2 and 5% CO2 at 37 degrees C. After an incubation of 30 min, the culture medium was decanted, and the quantity of hormone determined by radioimmunoassay.

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)-containing cells have been found in Brunner's glands in the same area where several regulatory peptides are released. The present study was aimed at testing the release and the regulation of EGF secretion from cultured duodenal biopsies obtained from healthy individuals by gastroscopy. The effects and the interaction of VIP and somatostatin on the hormone release were studied.
