Pre- and perioperative management of malnutrition is crucial for the success of hip and knee arthroplasties. Various studies indicate that malnutrition, particularly when associated with vitamin D deficiency, significantly increases the risk of postoperative complications such as periprosthetic fractures and infections, prolonged hospital stays, and higher mortality rates. Adequate preoperative nutritional intake, including vitamin D supplementation, can improve arthroplasty outcomes.

Organelle-specific protein translocation systems are essential for organelle biogenesis and maintenance in eukaryotes but thought to be absent from prokaryotic organelles. Here, we demonstrate that MamF-like proteins are crucial for the formation and functionality of bacterial magnetosome organelles. Deletion of mamF-like genes in the Alphaproteobacterium Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense results in severe defects in organelle positioning, biomineralization, and magnetic navigation.

Value-based care (VBC) aims to improve patient health outcomes relative to the cost of care by shifting from traditional fee-for-service models to patient-centered, outcome-driven approaches. This framework is particularly important in nephrology, where high costs associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage kidney disease have prompted the adoption of new care models. Key programs such as the Comprehensive End-Stage Renal Disease Care Model and the Kidney Care Choices program have introduced multidisciplinary teams and early-stage CKD interventions to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs.

Six rhenium hydride complexes, [(6,6'-R-bpy)Re(CO)H] (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, R = OEt, OMe, NHMe, Me, F, Br), were synthesized. These complexes insert CO to form rhenium formate complexes of the type [(6,6'-R-bpy)Re(CO){OC(O)H}]. All the rhenium formate species were characterized using X-ray crystallography, which revealed that the bpy ligand is not coplanar with the metal coordination plane containing the two nitrogen donors of the bpy ligand but tilted.

The present study examined the role of polarity correspondence (Proctor & Cho, 2006) in the approach/avoidance task. It was hypothesized that the typically found approach/avoidance effect could (at least in part) be explained by matching polarities of the stimuli and the response alternatives. To test this hypothesis, polarity of the stimuli was manipulated in three experiments.

Through a quality improvement project, we developed an initiative that leveraged patient- and community-level data to address health disparities and social vulnerability among patients receiving outpatient dialysis, including both incenter and home modalities. Using the Area Deprivation Index, we identified patients living in areas with the highest levels of deprivation and developed targeted interventions to help address adverse social determinants of health to improve patient health outcomes. Our quality improvement project demonstrates the potential of data-driven ap - proaches to identify and address health disparities in outpatient dialysis, and highlights the importance of addressing social determinants of health in improving patient outcomes.

Introduction: Medical educators strive to improve their curricula to enhance the student learning experience. The use of high-fidelity simulation within basic and clinical medical science subjects has been one of these initiatives. However, there is paucity of evidence on using simulation for teaching pharmacology, especially in the Middle East and North Africa region, and the effectiveness of this teaching modality, relative to more traditional ones, have not been sufficiently investigated.

Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) following total knee arthroplasty is a serious complication lacking evidence-based diagnostic and treatment protocols, particularly in ruling out persisting infection before reimplantation. This retrospective analysis assessed the mid-term outcomes of 66 patients undergoing septic two-stage knee revision surgeries from 2007 to 2013, diagnosed as per the Musculoskeletal Infection Society criteria. After implant removal and antibiotic treatment, reimplantation decisions were based on either joint aspiration, blood counts, and clinical examination (group A) or an open biopsy (group B).

When asked to judge or react to a facial emotional display of a person, people do not only take the emotion into account, but also other socially important features of the face, such as, for example, ethnicity (Kozlik & Fischer, 2020; Paulus & Wentura, 2014). Importantly, the emotion-related and nonemotion-related features are seemingly not (or not always) processed in a simple, additive manner, but are-in a more functional manner-integrated to provide an "amalgamated signal" on which individuals base their judgment and responses. Whereas Paulus and Wentura (2014) put forward a social-message account of this amalgamated signal, Kozlik and Fischer (2020) recently proposed a processing-conflict explanation.
