Article Synopsis
  • Different profiles of self-directedness, cooperativeness, and self-transcendence impact adolescent well-being, but their specific effects hadn't been studied until now.
  • This research involved 1540 adolescents, using the Temperament and Character Inventory to assess personality and well-being through various factors like social support and life satisfaction.
  • The findings indicate that self-directedness strongly correlates with overall well-being, while cooperativeness enhances non-affective well-being only when linked to self-directedness and self-transcendence, underscoring the need for youth mental health strategies in educational settings.

Article Synopsis
  • Students' perceptions of school success strategies are crucial for assessing school effectiveness and were analyzed through the Students' Perceptions of School Success Promoting Strategies Inventory (SPSI).
  • The study identified 7 related factors in the SPSI that demonstrated strong validity across different samples, indicating a robust multi-group model.
  • Higher academic results in schools were associated with effective strategies in areas like Career development, Active learning, Educational Technologies, and more, underscoring the SPSI's reliability in evaluating school success both within and across schools.

Personality traits related to persistence and self-regulation of long-term goals can predict academic performance as well or better than measures of intelligence. The 5-factor model has been suggested to outperform some other personality tests in predicting academic performance, but it has not been compared to Cloninger's psychobiological model for this purpose. The aims of this study were, first, to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Junior Temperament and Character Inventory (JTCI) in adolescents in Portugal, and second, to evaluate the comparative validity of age-appropriate versions of Cloninger's 7-factor psychobiological model, Costa and McCrae's five-factor NEO-Personality Inventory-Revised, and Cattell's 16-personality-factor inventory in predicting academic achievement.
