This reflection stems from an exchange with palliative care workers who expressed their difficulties in synchronizing with their patients. On the one hand, time is focused on action, on the other, on waiting. How can we provide care when time is lacking and eludes us? We can first recognize in the difference and the gap the foundations of the caring relationship.

Making care and compassion a central concern in the hospital, and more widely within the community, is essential. This means reflecting on the existential questioning imposed by illness, on the key role of the nursing function and the need to act with compassion, as well as on the awareness of our common vulnerability and the need to support it.
