Unexpected Peutz-Jeghers syndrome in an adult presenting with intermittent upper intestinal obstruction. A case report.

Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is an autosomal dominant inherited disease, belonging to the hamartomatous polyposis syndromes. It is characterized by multiple hamartomatous polyps of the gastrointestinal tract associated with oral and anal mucocutaneous pigmentations. We report the case of an adult patient diagnosed with an atypical form of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, thereby emphasizing the different possible syndrome phenotypes and the difficulty of their diagnosis.

Hydatid cyst of the pancreas causing portal hypertension.

Pancreatic localization of hydatid cyst is uncommon. We report a case of a 49-year-old woman who presented with abdominal discomfort, nausea and vomiting. The diagnosis of pancreatic cyst with splenomegaly and portal hypertension was supported on ultrasound, CT-scan and endoscopic ultrasound.

Gastric stromal tumor: a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are a subset of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors, though relatively rare in absolute terms. They are characterized by a remarkable cellular variability and their malignant potential is sometimes difficult to predict. We report a case of gastric stromal tumor in a 66 year old patient with a long history of anemia and intermitent upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

Steatosis in hepatitis C virus infection. Response to anti-viral therapy.

Background: Steatosis is a frequent feature of hepatitis-C-virus (HCV) infection. Steatosis may be an important cofactor in both accelerating fibrosis and increasing liver necroinflammatory activity in chronic hepatitis C. Several studies suggested that steatosis induces resistance to interferon and ribavirin combination treatment.
