Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of ovarian cancer metastasis in the spleen: a therapeutic option to consider.

Splenic metastasis are rare clinical entities developing in less than 1% of all metastatic cancers and usually in the setting of disseminated disease. To date, splenectomy is traditionally the first line therapy in patient with splenic metastasis, however non-surgical therapies have been reported. Here we described the case of a 57-year-old patient with splenic metastasis from ovarian cancer successfully treated by percutaneous radiofrequency ablation.

Serum uric acid to eGFR ratio correlates with adverse outcomes in elderly hospitalized for acute heart failure.

Background: Serum uric acid (SUA) is a known biomarker of severity in acute heart failure (AHF), reflecting the intricate interplay between cardiovascular and metabolic dysfunction. Since SUA can increase in response to worsening kidney function, and subjects with AHF often have cardiorenal syndrome or are on diuretic therapy, we tested whether the ratio of SUA to eGFR might provide prognostic value in elderly hospitalized for AHF.

Methods: The BOTERO-AHF Study (BOlogna study of Therapies, Epidemiology and Radiodiagnostic Outcomes in Acute Heart Failure patients) included 293 patients admitted for AHF who were consecutively enrolled from January 2020 onwards.

An unusual cause of diarrhoea: case report and literature review of olmesartan-associated enteropathy.

Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker, approved in 2002 by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of hypertension. During chronic therapy with olmesartan, sprue-like enteropathy can occur, being mainly characterised by non-bloody diarrhoea, weight loss and variable degrees of duodenal mucosal damage, which resolved after withdrawal of olmesartan. We hereby report the case of a 77-year-old, poli-treated male patient with a 3-month history of diarrhoea, vomiting and weight loss, associated with severe intestinal villous atrophy and lymphocytic infiltration of gastric and colonic mucosa.
