A series of novel derivatives of Poliacetylene Glycosides (PAGs) were synthesized, and their antiproliferative and antiviral properties were evaluated. Starting from D-(+)-glucose pentaacetate as a precursor, a commercially available and low-cost starting material, three different strategies were attempted to synthesize the new PAGs, and the desired compounds were obtained in high overall yields after only three steps. The synthesized PAGs exhibited antitumoral activity in concentrations ranging from 68-878 μM and antiviral activities in concentrations ranging from 71-794 μM.

Introduction: The low attendance of families in child developmental follow-up programs for at-risk preterm children is a challenge in Brazil.
Objective: This study evaluates the feasibility of implementing a developmental follow-up program for Brazilian preterm infants in a hybrid format.
Methods: This is an observational, prospective cohort study, involving preterm infants.
Background: Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) consists of an educational strategy that seeks to understand the biological processes of pain and how to control it. The main objective of this study will be to evaluate the impact of PNE on outcomes related to the postoperative period. The hypothesis is that the intervention may positively influence postoperative recovery, contributing to pain control, clinical indications, acceptance and consumption of analgesics and other pharmacological drugs that contribute to its control, as well as psychological aspects, such as anxiety, depression and pain catastrophising.

In this study, two new structure-related 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl-containing -acylhydrazones were synthesized and fully characterized, both in solution and in the solid state. The compounds differ with respect to the carbonyl precursors, i.

Herein, we estimated the current (2018) and future (2030) federal direct healthcare costs of colorectal cancer in the Brazilian Unified Health System attributable to red and processed meat consumption. Considering reduced red and processed meat consumption, we also projected attributable costs of colorectal cancer in 2040.

Congenital Zika Syndrome (CZS) is associated with an increased risk of microcephaly in affected children. This study investigated the peripheral dysregulation of immune mediators in children with microcephaly due to CZS. Gene expression quantified by qPCR in whole blood samples showed an increase in IFNγ and IL-13 transcripts in children affected with microcephaly compared to the control group.

Cobalt was included on the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List in 2015 due to its effect on stimulus of erythropoiesis via stabilization of hypoxia-inducible factor. Although it has proven benefits for performance enhancement, the unavailability of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry on routine of the accredited laboratories is a factor that reduces its applicability in anti-doping analysis. Therefore, an analytical method for quantification of urinary cobalt as its diethyldithiocarbamate complex by liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry was developed and validated.

The chosen model drug was ethambutol (ETB), a tuberculostatic drug with high aqueous solubility and hygroscopicity, which is incompatible with other drugs used in tuberculosis therapy. The composites loaded with ETB were obtained using different proportions of palygorskite and chitosan through the spray drying technique.

Photolysis at the metal-ligand charge transfer band (MLCT) of the isomers yielded nitric oxide (NO) as determined by NO measurement. The NO photorelease rates obtained upon 447 nm laser irradiation of the ruthenium complexes showed that cis-[Ru(bpy)(NO-κO)L] released NO three times faster than cis-[Ru(bpy)(NO-κN)L].

Resolution n. 1,664/2003 of the Brazilian Federal Council of Medicine legitimizes interventions upon intersex bodies, being the only national normative instrument that address the subject.

Methods: This is a prospective cohort study of 2nd-3rd trimester GDM outpatient care in Fortaleza, Brazil (2018-2020). Eveningness was defined by the Horne-Östberg Morningness-Eveningness-Questionnaire (MEQ ≤ 41).
Background: Excess body weight (EBW), herein defined as body mass index (BMI) ≥25 kg/m, is a well-known modifiable risk factor for cancer and a pivotal vector for growing healthcare costs. We estimated the future (2030) federal direct healthcare costs of cancer in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) attributable to EBW. We also projected direct healthcare costs of cancer that could be potentially saved in 2040, considering counterfactual (alternative) scenarios of population-wide reductions in the BMI to be achievedin 2030.

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of experimental solutions containing TiF/NaF and chitosan on bacterial species and on enamel caries prevention.
Methods: Microcosm biofilm was produced from human saliva mixed with McBain saliva (0.2% sucrose) on bovine enamel for five days, under 5% CO and 37 °C.
Introduction: Oncological surgery must follow some fundamental principles to be truly curative, one of which is the resection of the tumor with surgical margins free of neoplasia. In breast cancer, surgery with positive margins should be expanded immediately. There are probably different intensities, between the stages and molecular subtypes of operable breast cancer, of worsening prognosis due to the surgical margin compromised by the neoplasia in women not submitted to the necessary enlargement of the positive surgical margin.

Laponite® RD (LAP), a biocompatible synthetic clay, has been exploited for its ability to establish of strong secondary interactions with guest compounds and hybridization with polymers or small molecules that improves, for instance, cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation or facilitates drug attachment to their surfaces through charge interaction. In this work, LAP was combined with Tetronics, X-shaped amphiphilic PPO-PEO (poly (propylene oxide)-poly (ethylene oxide) block copolymers.

Chloroquine (CQ) and hydroxychloroquine, are promising anti-inflammatory drugs for the treatment of Diabetes mellitus (DM) to prevent associated complications. Therefore, this study evaluated the anti-inflammatory effects of CQ-free and CQ-incorporated polylactic acid nanoparticles (NPs) in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients with type 1 Diabetes mellitus (T1DM). In total, 25 normoglycemic individuals and 25 patients with T1DM aged 10-16 years were selected and glycemic controls evaluated.
