Introduction: Participants in cardiac rehabilitation programs have low adherence to their sessions, which makes extremely important to recognize the barriers that cause non-adherence, identifying whether the type of service and level of adherence influence these barriers.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study, in which 220 individuals (66.80±11.

A crushed concrete aggregate, processed from construction and demolition waste and a siderurgical aggregate, processed from electric arc furnace steel slag, were selected based on their very high availability worldwide and known technical feasibility to be used in construction works. Given the association of their presence to the possibility of reducing the drainage capacity of unbound granular layers of road pavements and drainage structures which they may be associated with, there are studies and regulations that do not recommend their use. The causes that are at the origin of restrictions are mainly the possibility of formation of tufa and recementation phenomena.

Background: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) barriers are well-understood in high-resource settings. However, they are under-studied in low-resource settings, where access is even poorer and the context is significantly different, including two-tiered healthcare systems and greater socioeconomic challenges.

Objective: To investigate differences in characteristics of patients attending publicly versus privately funded CR and their barriers to adherence.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of adding virtual reality (VR) to maintenance cardiac rehabilitation (CR); it was hypothesized VR would increase adherence, motivation, and engagement.

Methods: This study was a randomized, 1:1 concealed-allocation, single-blinded, 2 parallel-arm, crossover trial. Blinded assessments were undertaken at baseline (midprogram), 12 weeks, and 24 weeks after baseline.

Objective: To assess the acute response of cardiac autonomic modulation (ACAM) during and after a session of virtual reality-based therapy (VRBT) compared to a session of conventional cardiovascular rehabilitation (CR) and to evaluate the effects of 12 weeks of training on this response.

Methods: We assessed 28 volunteers (63.4 ± 12.

Worldwide, landslides incur catastrophic and significant economic and human losses. Previous studies have characterized the patterns in landslides' fatalities, from all kinds of triggering causes, at a continental or global scale, but they were based on data from periods of <10 years. The research herein presented hypothesizes that climate change associated with extreme rainfall and population distribution is contributing to a higher number of deadly landslides worldwide.

Background: Chronic heart failure patients present higher cost of transport and some changes in pattern of walking, but the same aspects have not yet been investigated in heart transplant patients.

Methods: The aim of this study was to investigate both metabolic and mechanicals parameters, at five different walking speeds on treadmill, in chronic heart failure and heart transplant patients. Twelve chronic heart failure patients, twelve healthy controls and five heart transplant patients participated in the study.

Background Patients with chronic heart failure frequently report intolerance to exercise and present with changes in walk pattern, but information about heart transplant patients is lacking. Alterations of the gait pattern are related to interaction changes between the metabolism, neurological system and the mechanical demands of the locomotor task. The aim of this study was to investigate the electromyographic cost, coactivation and cost of transport of walking of chronic heart failure and heart transplant patients.

Background: Stroke subjects show poorer sit-to-stand (STS) performance when compared to matched-healthy subjects, but it is still unclear the trunk role in this poorer performance.

Objectives: To compare the trunk kinematics related to the generation/transfer of the flexor momentum during the STS task between stroke and matched-healthy subjects, and to investigate if there were relationships between these variables and STS performance.

Methods: Eighteen chronic stroke survivors and 18 matched-healthy subjects were assessed.

Objectives: The aims of the present study were to determine the prevalence of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in a sample of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and to analyze the distribution of occlusal contacts.

Method: The sample was composed of patients with PD aged 50-75 years. Temporomandibular disorder was evaluated using the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD).

This study aimed to identify the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health categories addressed by the assessment tools commonly used in post-stroke rehabilitation and characterize patients based on its evaluation model. [Subjects and Methods] An exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted involving 35 individuals with chronic post-stroke hemiparesis. Handgrip strength was assessed to evaluate body functions and structures.

View Article and Find Full Text PDF

Background: Handgrip strength is currently considered a predictor of overall muscle strength and functional capacity. Therefore, it is important to find reliable and affordable instruments for this analysis, such as the modified sphygmomanometer test (MST).

Objectives: To assess the concurrent criterion validity of the MST, to compare the MST with the Jamar dynamometer, and to analyze the reproducibility (i.

The aims of the present study were to investigate the prevalence of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in a group of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), and to analyze oral health according to the severity of the disease. [Methods] Signs and symptoms of TMD were evaluated using the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders, and oral health impact was measured using the Oral Health Impact Profile. The unpaired Student's t-test was used to compare groups with and without TMD.

[Purpose] The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of a biteplate on the cranio-cervical posture of children with bruxism. [Subjects and Methods] Twelve male and female children aged six to 10 years with a diagnosis of bruxism participated in this study. The children used a biteplate during sleep for 30 days and were submitted to three postural evaluations: initial, immediately following placement of the biteplate, and at the end of treatment.

Little is known about the use of psychotherapy to treat common mental disorders in a major city in a middle-income country. Our data come from in-home interviews with a stratified random sample of 2000 community residents aged 18 to 65 years in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The information obtained included sociodemographic characteristics; psychotropic drugs; mental status; and lifetime, previous 12 months, and current use of psychotherapy.

Background: Subjects with neurological disease (ND) usually show impaired performance during sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit tasks, with a consequent reduction in their mobility levels.

Objective: To determine the measurement properties and feasibility previously investigated for clinical tests that evaluate sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit in subjects with ND.

Method: A systematic literature review following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) protocol was performed.

Introduction: A significant gap between the number of individuals who need mental health care and the ones who actually have access to it has been consistently demonstrated in studies conducted in different countries. Recognizing the barriers to care and their contributions to delaying or preventing access to mental health services is a key step to improve the management of mental health care. The Barriers to Access to Care Evaluation (BACE) scale is a 30-item self-report instrument conceived to evaluate obstacles to proper mental health care.

Background: A number of problems involving the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and associated structures can lead to temporomandibular disorder (TMD). The aim of the proposed study is to assess the effect of low-level laser therapy on occlusal contacts, mandibular movements, electromyography activity in the muscles of mastication and pain in adolescents with TMD.

Methods/design: A randomized, controlled, double-blind, clinical trial will be carried out involving 85 male and female adolescents between 15 and 18 years of age.

Prolactinomas are the commonest pituitary adenomas and the major pathological cause of hyperprolactinaemia. Symptomatic prolactinomas are treated mainly by dopamine agonists; surgery and radiotherapy are options for nonresponders. Schizophrenia treatment is based on antipsychotics, which acts mainly at serotonergic and dopaminergic systems.

Psychotherapy is an efficacious and long used type of care. However, information available in specialized literature shows that this area has been little studied. The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of use of outpatient psychotherapy by adult population, their related factors, and funding sources through systematic review, including qualitative and quantitative analyses of original articles with cross-sectional design and population-based sampling.
