Teaching the history of nursing: an overview of Brazilian public universities.

Objective: To describe the teaching of the History of Nursing in the curricular structures of Undergraduate Nursing Courses at Brazilian public universities.

Method: A documentary, descriptive study with a qualitative approach carried out between February 2021 and August 2023. The sample included the curricula of active face-to-face undergraduate courses at public educational institutions (n=136) identified on the e-MEC platform.

Pilocytic astrocytoma in adults: Histopathological, immunohistochemical and molecular study with clinical association.

Pilocytic astrocytoma is the most common primary CNS neoplasm in children and adolescents, rare after the first two decades of life. While some authors report a favorable prognosis in the adult age group with the tumor, others have associated it with higher mortality. The molecular alteration most observed in cases of pilocytic astrocytoma in the pediatric group is the BRAF-KIAA1549 gene fusion, and there are still few studies confirming the presence of this fusion in the adult population.

Plasma urea:creatinine ratio as a biomarker of gastrointestinal bleeding in dogs with anaemia.

Background: Gastrointestinal bleeding is a cause of anaemia in dogs. A reliable, non-invasive biomarker to differentiate gastrointestinal bleeding from other causes of anaemia would be advantageous to direct clinical decisions in anaemic patients. Plasma urea:creatinine ratio is an accepted biomarker of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in human medicine.

The impact of these cell alteration has direct consequences on cellular homeostasis. Cellular stress, as well as its regulation and implication, has been studied in different pathologies.

Assessment of knowledge toward periodontal disease among a sample of nephrologists and nurses who work with chronic kidney disease not yet on dialysis.

Introduction: Recent studies have identified periodontal disease (PD) as a risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD). The aim of this study was to assess the general knowledge about, attitudes toward, and behaviors/practices concerning PD among physicians and nurses who work with CKD patients.

Methods: An 8-question questionnaire was distributed to participants of the XXV Brazilian Congress of Nephrology (2010) and the Minas Gerais Nephrology Congress (2011).
