Background: There are a few studies about preceptorship in primary health care settings, but they didn't assess all possible contributions of this experience, such as preceptor behavioral changes and impact on health services.
Objective: This study aimed to analyze the perspective of pharmacy student preceptors on a service-learning program carried out in a primary health care setting.
Methods: This was a qualitative descriptive study, with semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis.
Unlabelled: Describing and analyzing the electrocardiographic and echocardiographic profile of patients with heart failure (HF).
Methods: Documentary, retrospective, quantitative and descriptive research; data collected at the Hospital das Clinicas of Uberlandia with patients diagnosed with HF.
Results: 81 patients participated in this study, with the average age of 66.
Background: Heart failure (HF) is a severe and self-limiting syndrome. Its signs and symptoms are believed to predict poorer health-related quality of life scores, which are mainly influenced by deterioration in physical capacity. In the present study we try to analyze the influence of clinical and socioeconomic characteristics and physical capacity on the quality of life of people with HF diagnosis.

This is an ecological study of daily and monthly time series based on data from the Brazilian Mortality Information System (SIM) and Brazilian Hospital Information System of the Brazilian Unified National Health System (SIH/SUS) from January 1, 2004, to December 31, 2014, using as the analytical units the four municipalities on the northern coast of the State of São Paulo. Negative binomial regression models were adjusted for the outcome that represented the number of hospital admissions and/or deaths from external causes, with calendar variables as predictors (days of the week, holidays, month, and year of occurrence).

Nanocapsules were prepared with different polymers, namely, poly(D,L-lactide) (PLA), polyethylene glycol-block-poly(D,L-lactide) (PLA-PEG), and PLA with chitosan (PLA-Cs) and compared with a nanoemulsion. These formulations were labelled with a phthalocyanine dye for fluorescent detection.

Flaxseed flour has been described as an excellent alpha-linolenic acid source. This study was designed to evaluate the effects of flaxseed flour on body adiposity and bone health in rats fed a flaxseed flour diet during lactation until 90 days. At birth, male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to control (C) and experimental (FF) groups, whose dams were treated with a control or flaxseed flour diet, respectively, during lactation.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of flaxseed flour in the intake on adiposity and femur structure of the lactating rats during the post-weaning period. After weaning, the lactating rats were divided into control (C, n = 6) and experimental (F, n = 6) groups treated with a diet containing flaxseed flour. Serum hormone and fatty acids composition, morphology of intra-abdominal adipocytes, computed tomography and biomechanical analyses of femur were determined.

We hypothesized that the (-G380A) polymorphism in the TNF-α gene is associated with regression of PPF after treatment for schistosomiasis mansoni.
Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study, involving 124 Brazilian patients infected with Schistosoma mansoni, who were followed for 2 years after treatment to estimate the likelihood of PPF regression.

Introduction: We hypothesized higher mannose-binding lectin level and classic factors (i.e., age, sex, alcohol consumption, exposure, and specific treatment) are associated with the severity of periportal fibrosis in schistosomiasis.

Interleukin 10 (IL-10) is an important anti-inflammatory cytokine that modulates severe periportal fibrosis (PPF). We hypothesized that genetic polymorphisms (-G1082A/-C819T/-C592A) of the IL-10 gene and classic factors (age, sex, alcohol, exposure, and specific treatment) are associated with the severity of PPF and that these polymorphisms influence IL-10 expression. In this cross-sectional study, we genotyped these polymorphisms within the IL-10 gene in 203 Brazilian subjects infected with Schistosoma mansoni, with different patterns of PPF.

Nanoparticles of poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide), poly(d,l-lactide) and polyethylene glycol-block-poly(d,l-lactide) were developed to encapsulate chloroaluminium phthalocyanine (AlClPc), a new hydrophobic photosensitiser used in photodynamic therapy (PDT). The mean nanoparticle size varied from 115 to 274 nm, and the encapsulation efficiency ranged from 57% to 96% due to drug precipitation induced by different types of polymer. All nanoparticle formulations presented negative zeta potential values (-37 mV to -59 mV), explaining their colloidal stability.
