Purpose: Concomitant chemoradiation followed by repeat (dose-deescalated) irradiation has become standard of care in treating childhood diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) during first line treatment and at first progression. Progression after re-irradiation (re-RT) is in most cases symptomatic and either treated systemically with chemotherapy or new innovative approaches including targeted therapy. Alternatively, the patient receives best supportive care.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiac radioablation (cRA) is a treatment for patients with a heart problem called recurrent ventricular tachycardia (VT), which can happen when other treatments don't work.
  • Two patients who had heart failure and were using a special device called an LVAD tried cRA, but they still had VT during and after the procedure.
  • One patient did get better for a little while but eventually died from a bleeding issue, while the other patient stabilized for a few days before getting worse and passing away about 50 days later.

Purpose: Cardiac radioablation is a novel treatment option for patients with refractory ventricular tachycardia unsuitable for catheter ablation. The quality of treatment planning depends on dose specifications, platform capabilities, and experience of the treating staff. To harmonize the treatment planning, benchmarking of this process is necessary for multicenter clinical studies such as the RAdiosurgery for VENtricular TAchycardia trial.
