Background And Objectives: Lung cancer screening is critical for early detection and management, particularly through the use of computed tomography (CT). This study aims to compare the Lung Imaging Reporting and Data System (Lung-RADS) Version 2022 with the British Thoracic Society (BTS) guidelines in classifying solid pulmonary nodules detected at lung cancer screening CT examinations.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 224 patients who underwent lung cancer screening CT between 2016 and 2022 and had a reported solid pulmonary nodule.

: The current study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the Lung Imaging Reporting and Data System (Lung-RADS) Version 2022 and the British Thoracic Society (BTS) guidelines in differentiating lung metastases from de novo primary lung cancer on CT scans in patients without prior cancer diagnosis. : This retrospective study included 196 patients who underwent chest CT scans between 2015 and 2022 without a known history of cancer but with detected pulmonary nodules. CT images characterized nodules based on size, number, location, margins, attenuation, and growth patterns.

Pulmonary resections are critical interventions for treating various lung pathologies, both benign and malignant. Understanding the impact of these surgeries on patients' Quality of Life (QoL) is essential for optimizing care. This study aims to compare the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and psychological well-being in patients who underwent pulmonary resections for benign versus malignant etiologies.

Pulmonary fibrosis detected during the acute phase of SARS-CoV-2 infection may significantly influence patient prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of initial high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings of pulmonary fibrosis in hospitalized COVID-19 patients and to examine how these findings relate to disease severity and clinical outcomes, with a particular focus on the development and validation of predictive scoring systems. In this multicentric prospective cohort study from January 2023 to January 2024, 120 adult patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection requiring hospitalization were enrolled from two Romanian university hospitals.

Background And Objectives: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative blood transfusions in correcting anemia for pediatric patients with congenital malformations (CMs) versus those with acute abdomen (AA) conditions. The study hypothesized that the response to transfusions might vary significantly between these groups due to the differences in the underlying pathology and clinical status.

Methods: The study included 107 pediatric patients admitted to Timisoara 'Louis Turcanu' Emergency Hospital for Children between January 2015 and May 2023, who required blood transfusions for preoperative anemia.

The COVID-19 pandemic underscores the need for accurate prognostic tools to predict patient outcomes. This study evaluates the effectiveness of four prominent COVID-19 prediction scores-PAINT, ISARIC4C, CHIS, and COVID-GRAM-at two critical time points: at admission and seven days post-symptom onset, to assess their utility in predicting mortality among hospitalized patients. Conducted at the Clinical Emergency Hospital Pius Brînzeu in Timișoara, this retrospective analysis included adult patients hospitalized with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Pediatric seizure disorders profoundly impact family dynamics, often escalating stress and impairing coping mechanisms. This study aimed to longitudinally assess the impact of pediatric seizures on family stress and coping, evaluating the efficacy of multidisciplinary follow-up care in enhancing psychological resilience and adaptation. A longitudinal study design was implemented, enrolling children aged 1-18 who presented with a first seizure and received a neurologist's diagnosis at the Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children "Louis Turcanu," Timisoara, Romania.

Despite several parallels between intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual assault (SA), programs designed to reduce either of these forms of violence against women rarely evaluate the impact on both IPV and SA. Accordingly, we investigated whether one such program (the Enhanced Assess, Acknowledge, Act (EAAA) Sexual Assault Resistance program), designed to help university-aged women resist SA, could also reduce subsequent IPV. Women university students who were enrolled in the Sexual Assault Resistance Education (SARE) randomized controlled trial examining the impact of the EAAA program on SA, were recruited immediately after completing the last survey in the SARE trial.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) constitute a significant cause of morbidity and mortality globally, particularly among individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Ertugliflozin, a Sodium-Glucose Co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, is hypothesized to confer cardiovascular protection; however, long-term follow-up studies are necessary to support the hypothesis. This systematic review was conducted to evaluate the cardiovascular effects of ertugliflozin in diabetic versus non-diabetic cohorts, focusing on major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), hospitalizations for heart failure, and cardiovascular mortality.

Article Synopsis
  • Substance Use Disorder (SUD) significantly decreases individuals' quality of life (QOL), with this systematic review examining its impact across physical, mental, social, and environmental domains for various substances.
  • The review included 19 studies analyzing 6079 patients, primarily polysubstance users, where cocaine, alcohol, and amphetamines were among the most common substances used.
  • Key factors negatively affecting QOL were identified as mental disorders, long-term substance use, criminal history, unemployment, low education levels, and specific health issues like sleep problems and dental decay, highlighting the critical need for comprehensive interventions.

  • This study explores the link between developing bronchiectasis after lung surgery and the patients' overall quality of life (HRQoL), revealing potential long-term impacts.
  • Out of 135 adult patients who had lung resections for suspicious nodules, 44 developed bronchiectasis within six months, leading to lower health status and increased anxiety.
  • The findings highlight the need for continued monitoring of respiratory health in post-surgery patients, particularly those who develop bronchiectasis, due to the significant deterioration in quality of life and increased stress levels.

  • * Patients with fungal infections exhibited higher rates of obesity, significant comorbidities, and increased use of ventilators and ICU admissions, along with markedly higher mortality rates compared to those without fungal infections.
  • * The second, fourth, and fifth waves of the pandemic were linked to greater mortality risks, particularly related to certain drug-resistant fungal species, highlighting the complex interplay between COVID-19 severity and secondary fungal infections.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an increasingly frequent disorder that is likely to become the third leading cause of morbidity worldwide. It significantly degrades the quality of life of patients affected and poses a significant financial burden to the healthcare systems providing treatment and rehabilitation. Consequently, our study’s purpose was to compare conventional inpatient pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) with virtual (online) PR using a mobile phone application.

Trauma narratives may have been influenced by the Me Too movement, with thousands of individuals disclosing sexual violence stories online. Youth, the largest demographic of online users, may prefer the anonymity of the Internet to discuss experiences of sexual assault. Understanding the ways that young women, especially those experiencing mental health difficulties, discuss their experiences is important as they are at higher risk of revictimization and continued poor mental health.
