We hypothesized that HLA eplet mismatch analysis is a better predictor of adverse outcomes after pediatric heart transplant than conventional allele mismatch comparison.
Methods: A retrospective review of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Society database identified pediatric heart recipients (<18 years at listing) with complete donor and recipient HLA typing (A, B, and DR).
Background: Dyad learning has been shown to be an effective tool for teaching procedural skills, but little is known about how dyad learning may impact the stress, anxiety, and cognitive load that a student experiences when learning in this manner. In this pilot study, we investigate the relationship between dyad training on stress, anxiety, cognitive load, and performance in a simulated bradycardia scenario.

The patient had no history of cardiac disease and had undergone a dobutamine stress echocardiogram within the preceding 6 months that showed no evidence of inducible ischemia. Nevertheless, routine postoperative electrocardiogram (EKG) revealed new Q waves and T-wave inversions and transthoracic echocardiogram that demonstrated akinesis of the left ventricle (LV) apex with chronic-appearing apical thrombus.

We evaluated the immunological effects of red blood cell (RBC) and platelet transfusions on alloantibody responses and on immunoregulatory cells in nonimmunosuppressed patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery.

Perioperative serotonin syndrome has been associated with a number of medications and herbal supplements. We report a patient who developed serotonin syndrome immediately after an endoscopic procedure in which the preoperative use of black seed oil appears to have played a role in stimulating the syndrome. Black seed oil has not been previously reported in association with perioperative serotonin syndrome.

However, the clinical significance of dnDSA detected by screening patients with a stable creatinine remains unclear.
Methods: One hundred three patients younger than 18years receiving a first, kidney alone transplant between December 1, 2007, and December 31, 2013, underwent DSA screening every 3months for 2years posttransplant, with additional testing as clinically indicated.
Epicardial pacing wires are routinely used to avoid hemodynamic instability due to perioperative arrhythmias after cardiac surgery. In rare cases, pacing wires themselves can be associated with potentially life-threatening complications. Herein, we present a novel case of hemorrhagic shock and hemoperitoneum after temporary epicardial pacing wire removal.

In this study, we have investigated how heart rate asymmetry (HRA) changes in major depressive disorder (MDD) subjects with comorbid diabetes as well as in male and female. Depression score was determined based on PHQ-9 questionnaire and from 135 subjects 70 subjects were selected with 1000 or more RR intervals. Recent advances in methods for detecting and identifying alloantibodies against human leukocyte antigens (HLAs) and human PLT antigens, combined with accurate molecular techniques for HLA typing, have provided a framework for the development of clinical algorithms to support such patients. Alloantibodies may be detected and/or identified by several methods, including complement-dependent cytotoxicity, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), and microbead-based assays using Luminex or flow cytometry.
