Telehealth in paediatric orthopaedic surgery in Queensland: a 10-year review.

Background: Telemedicine is a patient consultation method commonly available to patients in rural and remote areas throughout Australia. Its use in paediatric orthopaedics has been rarely described. The primary aim of this study was to identify the patient cohort accessing the orthopaedic paediatric telehealth service through the Royal Children's Hospital Queensland, so as to better allocate this resource.

[Application of Ilizarov technique in salvage ankle arthrodesis].

Objective: To introduce the application of Ilizarov technique in ankle fusion with serious pathology and failed ankle arthrodesis.

Method: The medical records and images of 9 cases of complex ankle fusion using Ilizarov external fixator were analyzed. Among the 9 cases, 6 received revisional ankle fusion, and 3 primary fusion for septic arthritis.

Fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) signalling is important in the initiation and regulation of osteogenesis. Although mutations in FGFR1, 2, and 3 genes are known to cause skeletal deformities, the expression of FGFR4 in bony tissue remains unclear. We have investigated the expression pattern of FGFR4 in the neonatal mouse calvaria and compared it to the expression pattern in cultures of primary osteoblasts.
