Objective: Opportunity exists for improved local control rates of grade 2 meningiomas that recur despite maximal surgical resection and adjuvant fractionated radiotherapy (RT). We describe a dose escalation strategy of increasing the total tumor radiation dose by adding a stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) boost targeting gross disease to fractionated RT.

Methods: A single-institution retrospective cohort of patients from 2009-2023 with grade 2 meningioma treated with surgical resection, fractionated RT, and SRS boost were evaluated for baseline characteristics, local disease control, and adverse events (AE).

Article Synopsis
  • * While medical management is the usual approach for carotid dissection, there are instances where endovascular intervention becomes necessary, although open surgery is seldom used.
  • * This review discusses three specific cases of carotid artery dissection treated with endovascular methods, including traumatic causes and one arising from medical procedures, to illustrate treatment decisions and outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Head position strongly impacts cerebral venous pressures and intracranial pressures in patients with cerebral venous outflow disorders (CVD).
  • In a study of 22 patients, significant increases in superior sagittal sinus (SSS) pressures and lumbar puncture opening pressures were observed when the head was rotated.
  • The findings emphasize the importance of using dynamic venography for better diagnosis and treatment of CVD and related intracranial hypertension issues.

Epilepsy is a debilitating disease that impacts millions of people worldwide. While unprovoked seizures characterize its cardinal symptom, an important aspect of epilepsy that remains to be addressed is the neuropsychiatric component. It has been documented for millennia in paintings and literature that those with epilepsy can suffer from bouts of aggression, depression, and other psychiatric ailments.

Injury to the central nervous system (CNS) is common, and though it has been well studied, many aspects of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke are poorly understood. TBI and stroke are two pathologic events that can cause severe, immediate impact to the neurostructure and function of the CNS, which has been recognized recently to be exacerbated by the body's own immune response. Although the brain damage induced by the initial trauma is most likely unsalvageable, the secondary immunologic deterioration of neural tissue gives ample opportunity for therapeutic strategists seeking to mitigate TBI's secondary detrimental effects.
