Introduction: Recent years have observed the increasing utilization of robotic-assisted and computer navigation techniques in total hip arthroplasty (THA), given the proposed benefits of enhanced consistency and precision in implant placement. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to determine whether differences in surgical times, adverse events, and implant positioning existed between manual, robotic-assisted, and computer navigation THA.

Methods: PubMed, OVID/MEDLINE, and Cochrane databases were queried for RCTs comparing robotic-assisted versus manual THA and computer navigation versus manual THA at a minimum 1-year follow-up.

Introduction: Complex cubital fossa injuries with bony and vascular injuries are not an uncommon clinical presentation after trauma to the elbow. The revascularization of the upper limb by brachial artery repair with the venous graft is paramount, followed by immediate cover with a sturdy flap to salvage the limb. The use of local muscle and fasciocutaneous flaps is limited in the setting of vascular injury.

Narrative analysis is well established as a means of examining the subjective experience of those who suffer chronic illness and cancer. In a study of perceptions of the outcomes of treatment of cancer of the colon, we have been struck by the consistency with which patients record three particular observations of their subjective experience: (1) the immediate impact of the cancer diagnosis and a persisting identification as a cancer patient, regardless of the time since treatment and of the presence or absence of persistent or recurrent disease; (2) a state of variable alienation from social familiars, expressed as an inability to communicate the nature of the experience of the illness, its diagnosis and treatment; and (3) a persistent sense of boundedness, an awareness of limits to space, empowerment and available time. These subjectivities were experienced in varying degree by all patients in our study.

Introduction: Continuity is valued by patients, clinicians, and health systems for its association with higher-value care and satisfaction. Continuity is a commonly cited reason for entering primary care; however, it is difficult to achieve in residency settings. We sought to determine the effect of transitioning from a traditional "block" (13 4-week rotations per year) to a "clinic-first" (priority on outpatient continuity) curriculum on measures of continuity in our family medicine residency.

Background: Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is an established local treatment method for patients with hepatic oligometastasis or oligoprogression. Liver metastases often occur in close proximity to radiosensitive organs at risk (OARs). This limits the possibility to apply sufficiently high doses needed for optimal local control.

Article Synopsis
  • - Ultralight bosons like axion-like particles are considered strong contenders for dark matter and can create stable structures called topological defects that cluster dark matter in small areas throughout the galaxy.
  • - The study utilized a global network of optical magnetometers to search for transient signals from domain walls created by these axion-like particles.
  • - After analyzing a month of data, the researchers found no significant signals, which helps to limit the theoretical possibilities of dark matter involving these particles.
