Background: Porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS) is used as a biological implant for abdominal wall hernia repair to facilitate wound healing and augment local tissue strength. This prospective, randomized, blinded study evaluated local pain control provided by bupivacaine adsorbed to SIS for repair of acutely created abdominal wall full thickness muscle/fascial defects in ferrets.
Materials And Methods: Eighteen healthy ferrets were randomly and equally assigned to three groups: (1) SIS with bupivacaine subjected to surgery, (2) SIS with no bupivacaine subjected to surgery, and (3) anesthesia only control group.
Background: The addition of adjuvants frequently enhances the efficacy of vaccine preparations. Interest in the use of vaccines as a means to treat cancer has led to the search for improved adjuvants. Because cancer vaccines based on whole cell preparations might benefit from an adjuvant which enhances expression of antigens expressed during tumor cell growth, we evaluated the utility of an extracellular matrix material, porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS), as a cancer vaccine adjuvant.

Objectives of diagnostic imaging are to facilitate diagnosis, decision making, and enhance treatment outcomes. As cases become more complex, advanced multiplane imaging methods allowing for a 3-D view are more likely to meet these objectives than traditional 2-D radiography.

Fresh catfish fillets inoculated with a mixture of spores from five strains of C. botulinum type E were packaged in high barrier film with air, vacuum and modified atmosphere and stored at 4, 8 or 16°C for up to 75 days.
