Cast Titanium for Obturator Framework Construction in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics.

A 37 year old male presented with the complaint of a loose and bulky acrylic obturator prosthesis. He had previously tried to using a different acrylic obturator prostheses as well as both cobalt chromium and titanium framework obturators. The most successful previous prosthesis was a titanium based obturator which had performed well prior to a fractured clasp.

A composite approach to the management of worn maxillary first molar teeth.

A lady with extrinsic acid erosion was referred to the restorative department at Bristol Dental Hospital by her General Dental Practitioner (GDP) for restoration of worn maxillary first molar teeth. These teeth were both causing symptoms of dentinal sensitivity and two attempts had been made to restore them with composite by her GDP. The restorations failed because there was insufficient space to bond the composite in place, which was due to dento-alveolar compensation of the first molars into the space created by the wear.

Comparison of restorative dentistry referrals to a district general hospital and to a teaching hospital using a pilot Index of Restorative Dental Treatment Need.

The purpose of this study was to identify differences between referral patterns and the clinical conditions of patients referred to consultant-led Restorative Dentistry clinics in a district general hospital and a London dental teaching hospital. The Index of Restorative Dental Treatment Need was used to classify patients into those patients whose treatment was appropriate for any dental graduate in general practice, for an experienced dentist in general practice, and for a dentist with specialist training. Demographic and clinical details were recorded for one hundred patients at each hospital.

Direct cores for vital teeth--materials and methods used to retain cores in vital teeth.

A core, or foundation restoration, is used to restore extensively damaged teeth to a form suitable for crown preparation. This literature review considers the range of materials which can be used for cores and the evidence for their suitability. The methods for their retention in vital teeth will be presented and appraised.

Case report: restorative options in regional odontodysplasia.

A case of regional odontodysplasia in a 13 year old female is reported. The restorative options in this case are considered along with the rational for providing a dentine bonded all-porcelain bridge. This approach restored both function and aesthetics with minimum destruction to the hypoplastic tooth tissue of the abutment.
