Eukaryotic genomes are packaged into chromatin, which is composed of condensed filaments of regularly spaced nucleosomes, resembling beads on a string. The nucleosome contains ~147 bp of DNA wrapped almost twice around a central core histone octamer. The packaging of DNA into chromatin represents a challenge to transcription factors and other proteins requiring access to their binding sites.

The mechanisms driving the changes in microbial composition, while largely unknown, is critical to understand considering that the gut microbiota plays important roles in drug metabolism and brain function. Using Escherichia coli, we show that the SSRI fluoxetine and the TCA amitriptyline exert strong selection pressure for enhanced efflux activity of the AcrAB-TolC pump, a member of the resistance-nodulation-cell division (RND) superfamily of transporters.

Dam1p, a subunit of the Dam1 complex, binds to microtubules and is regulated by Aurora B/Ipl1p phosphorylation. We find that overexpression of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) catalytic subunits (, , , ) is lethal in mutants and increases the rate of chromosome loss in wild-type cells.
