Brief Psychological Interventions for Reducing Prescription Opioid Use, Related Harm, and Pain Intensity in Patients With Chronic Pain: A Systematic Review and Assessment of Patient Interest.

Objectives: Brief psychological interventions (BPIs) have demonstrated effectiveness in reducing substance use and related harm. No systematic review has examined their potential to reduce or prevent prescription opioid use or related harm, and/or pain intensity in opioid-using patients with chronic noncancer pain (CNCP). Recognizing the importance of patient preferences in evidence-based practice, we also sought to assess patient interest in BPIs.

Burn Pain: A Systematic and Critical Review of Epidemiology, Pathophysiology, and Treatment.

Objective: This review aims to examine the available literature on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of burn-induced pain.

Methods: A search was conducted on the epidemiology of burn injury and treatment of burn pain utilizing the database Medline, and all relevant articles were systemically reviewed. In addition, a critical review was performed on the pathophysiology of burn pain and animal models of burn pain.

Opioid analgesic prescribing in Australia: a focus on gender and age.

Purpose: The use of prescription opioid analgesics has been increasing over the last few decades in Australia. In particular, oxycodone and fentanyl have increased substantially. We examined the gender and age trends in the prescribing of subsidised opioid analgesics in the Australian population for non-palliative care indications.
