[Zika virus infection: sexual transmission and implications for prevention].

Zika virus infection, most oft n responsible for a benign arboviral disease or an asymptomatic infection, rarely Guillain-Barré syndrome, can become problematic in pregnant women, due to a risk of fetal malformations, in particular microcephaly linked to its neurotropism. The most recent large-scale epidemic was observed throughout Latin America between 2015 and 2017, causing several hundred thousand cases. Transmission is predominantly vector-borne, but sexual transmission has been described, mainly among travelers, although it undoubtedly accounts for a significant proportion of transmission in epidemic areas.

Chemical renal denervation in the rat.

Introduction: The recent success of renal denervation in lowering blood pressure in drug-resistant hypertensive patients has stimulated interest in developing novel approaches to renal denervation including local drug/chemical delivery. The purpose of this study was to develop a rat model in which depletion of renal norepinephrine (NE) could be used to determine the efficacy of renal denervation after the delivery of a chemical to the periadventitial space of the renal artery.

Methods: Renal denervation was performed on a single renal artery of 90 rats (n = 6 rats/group).

Fungal infections in immunocompromised travelers.

Immunocompromised patients represent an increasing group of travelers, for business, tourism, and visiting friends and relatives. Those with severe cellular immunodeficiency (advanced human immunodeficiency virus infection and transplant recipients) display the highest risk of fungal infections. International travel is less risky in most other types of immunodeficiency (except those with neutropenia).

Tick-borne relapsing fever with cutaneous eschar and radiculopathy, Ethiopia.

We report the first confirmed case of tick-borne borreliosis by molecular tools in a French traveler returning from Ethiopia with unusual presentation: the presence of cutaneous eschar after a hard tick-bite suggesting firstly to clinicians a diagnosis of tick-borne rickettsiosis.

Efficacy of rifampin-moxifloxacin-metronidazole combination therapy in hidradenitis suppurativa.

Background: Antibiotics have been shown to improve hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) patients but complete remission is rare using these treatments.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of a combination of oral rifampin, moxifloxacin and metronidazole in long-lasting refractory HS.

Methods: We retrospectively studied 28 consecutive HS patients including 6, 10 and 12 Hurley stage 1, 2 and 3 patients, respectively.

Unusual location of an inoculation lesion in a traveler with African tick-bite fever returning from South Africa.

African tick-bite fever is a common tick-borne rickettsiosis in sub-Saharan Africa. It is an acute febrile illness associated with one (or more) inoculation eschar, an inconstant eruption, and local lymphadenopathies. We describe the first case of mucosal inoculation lesion on the vulva in a female traveler returning from South Africa.

Therapy considerations in drug-eluting stents.

Approximately 12 million Americans have coronary artery disease, and almost one in five deaths in the United States can be attributed to this disease. In addition, 1.2 million Americans undergo cardiac catheterization and over one-half million receive a percutaneous coronary intervention such as balloon angioplasty, atherectomy, or stent implantation annually.
