This study compared the effectiveness of capillary dried blood spots (DBS) versus venous DBS in detecting metabolic changes related to drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE). DBS samples were collected from 142 epilepsy patients (58 drug-resistant, 84 drug-responsive) via venipuncture or fingerstick capillary sampling. Metabolomic analysis using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry compared DBS metabolite profiles between the two groups.

This study aimed to develop an innovative dosage form for 10-hydroxycamptothecin (HCPT), a chemotherapeutic agent with limited aqueous solubility and stability, to enhance its parenteral delivery and targeting to hepatic cancer. We formulated HCPT into a nanoemulsion using tributyrin, a dietary component with histone deacetylase inhibitor activity. This review provides an overview on the current applications of dried blood spots (DBS) as matrices for therapeutic drug (TDM) and drug or disease response monitoring (DRM). Compared with conventional methods using plasma/serum, DBS offers several advantages, including minimally invasiveness, a small blood volume requirement, reduced biohazardous risk, and improved sample stability.
