Background: Arrhythmia-induced cardiomyopathy (AIC) is a known entity, but prospective evidence for its characterization is limited.
Objectives: This study aimed to: 1) determine the relative frequency of the pure form of AIC in the clinically relevant cohort of patients with newly diagnosed, otherwise unexplained left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) and tachyarrhythmia; 2) assess the time to recovery from LVSD; and 3) identify parameters for an early diagnosis of AIC.
Methods: Patients were prospectively included, underwent effective rhythm restoration, and were followed-up at 2, 4, and 6 months to evaluate clinical characteristics, biomarkers, and cardiac imaging including cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.
Patients with Post-COVID syndrome (PCS) are frequently referred for cardiologic evaluation. We assessed cardiac function and biomarkers in relation to functional status and fatigue in patients with PCS. This prospective single-center cohort study included 227 patients with persisting symptoms after COVID-19 infection.

While many patients describe neuropsychiatric deficits, the symptoms are yet to be assessed and defined systematically. In this prospective cohort study, we report on the results of a neuropsychiatric consultation implemented in May 2021.

Results And Discussion: Controlled clinical trials to evaluate new agents for prevention and treatment are needed but are hampered by the lack of outcome measures that accurately assess the effect of the intervention, are clinically relevant, and are acceptable from a regulatory perspective.
Methods: To facilitate consistent end points in clinical trials and to support clinical research and drug development, definitions of BKPyV infection and disease have been developed by the BK Disease Definitions Working Group of the Transplantation Associated Virus Infection Forum with the Forum for Collaborative Research, which consists of scientists, clinicians, regulators, and industry representatives.
Human immunodeficiency virus types 1 and 2 (HIV-1 and HIV-2) diagnostic testing algorithms recommended by the Centers for Disease Control involve up to three tests and rely mostly on detection of viral antigen and host antibody responses. HIV-1 p24 antigen/HIV-1/HIV-2 antibody-reactive specimens are confirmed with an immunochromatographic HIV-1/HIV-2 antibody differentiation assay, and negative or indeterminate results from the differentiation assay are resolved by an HIV-1-specific nucleic acid amplification test (NAT). The performance of a proposed alternative algorithm using the cobas HIV-1/HIV-2 qualitative NAT as the differentiation assay was evaluated in subjects known to be infected with HIV-1 ( = 876) or HIV-2 ( = 139), at low ( = 6,017) or high ( = 1,020) risk of HIV-1 infection, or at high-risk for HIV-2 infection ( = 498) (study A).

In clinical settings, DBS methods may falsely categorize many patients as failing therapy.
Objectives: Description of a simple method, free virus elution (FVE), to preferentially elute plasma-associated virus from DBS samples with phosphate-buffered saline, and an initial HIV VL performance comparison with standard DBS elution methods.
Next generation sequencing technologies are revolutionizing the study of immune repertoires. These methods provide a previously unimaginable amount of sequence data, unfortunately accompanied by numerous challenges associated with error correction and interpretation that remain to be solved. For antigen receptors, these challenges will require dedicated solutions beyond those developed for genome sequencing, which may differ depending on the sequencing technology used and the purpose of the experiment.

If such losses were associated with an erosion of T-cell receptor (TCR) repertoire diversity in the peripheral T-cell pool, this might exacerbate the state of persistent immunodeficiency. Existing methods for the analysis of the TCR repertoire have demonstrated skewed distributions of TCR genes in HIV-infected subjects but cannot directly measure TCR diversity.

Little is known about the biology of these tumors in respect of their ability to metastasize or the probability of development of concomitant neuroendocrine tumors. Here we report a patient diagnosed with a second neuroendocrine tumor of the ileum 4 years after curative resection of a typical carcinoid of the left lung.

Design: Drug effects were studied with biochemical and cellular assays.

T cell receptor (TCR) diversity is critical for adaptive immunity. Existing methods for measuring such diversity are qualitative, expensive, and/or of uncertain accuracy. Here, we describe a method and associated reagents for estimating the absolute number of unique TCR Vβ rearrangements present in a given number of cells or volume of blood.

Here we present a general and economical method for developing customizable DNA standards of known sequence diversity. Standards ranging from 1 to 25,000 sequences were generated by directional ligation of oligonucleotide "words" of standard length and GC content and then amplified by PCR.

Clathrin is recruited to endocytic sites on the plasma membrane by the AP2 adaptor complex. The medium subunit (micro2) of AP2 binds to cargo proteins and phosphatidylinositol-4 ,5-bisphosphate on the cell surface.

Here, we report findings of a prospective randomized study examining the effects of GH on the immune system of HIV-1-infected adults. GH treatment was associated with increased thymic mass.

Here we describe a method, called AmpliCot, that measures the sequence diversity of PCR products on the basis of DNA hybridization kinetics, thereby avoiding the time, expense and biases associated with cloning and sequencing. SYBR Green dye is used to measure DNA hybridization kinetics in a homogeneous, automated fashion.
