Order picking tasks require repetitive trunk and upper arms movements that may increase the risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders, particularly among older workers due to the decline of their physical capabilities with aging. We proposed an approach based on a limited number of wearable inertial sensors to assessed exposures to non-neutral trunk and upper arms postures among both older and young workers during their regular work-shifts. The obtained data were processed accordingly to international standards (ISO 11226 and EN 1005-4) to detect the existence of possible differences associated with age-specific working strategies.

We report the use of a new multiplex Real-Time PCR platform to simultaneously identify 24 pathogens and 3 antimicrobial-resistance genes directly from respiratory samples of COVID-19 patients. Results were compared to culture-based diagnosis. Secondary infections were detected in 60% of COVID-19 patients by molecular analysis and 73% by microbiological assays, with no significant differences in accuracy, indicating Gram-negative bacteria as the predominant species.

We sought associations with HIV-directed immunogenicity in the phase 1/2a APPROACH vaccine trial, which tested vaccine regimens containing mosaic inserts in Ad26 and MVA vectors, with or without a trimeric gp140 protein. While there were no allelic associations with the overall cellular immune response to the vaccine assessed by ELISpot (Gag, Pol, and Env combined), significant associations with differential response to Gag compared to Env antigens were observed.

Current serologic tests for HIV screening and confirmation of infection present challenges to the adoption of HIV vaccines. The detection of vaccine-induced HIV-1 antibodies in the absence of HIV-1 infection, referred to as vaccine-induced seropositivity/seroreactivity, confounds the interpretation of test results, causing misclassification of HIV-1 status with potential affiliated stigmatization. For HIV vaccines to be widely adopted with high community confidence and uptake, tests are needed that are agnostic to the vaccination status of tested individuals (ie, positive only for true HIV-1 infection).

The functionality of CD8+ T cells against human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) antigens is indicative of HIV-progression in both animal models and people living with HIV. It is, therefore, of interest to assess CD8+ T cell responses in a prophylactic vaccination setting, as this may be an important component of the immune system that inhibits HIV-1 replication. T cell responses induced by the adenovirus serotype 26 (Ad26) mosaic vaccine regimen were assessed previously by IFN-γ ELISpot and flow cytometric assays, yet these assays only measure cytokine production but not the capacity of CD8+ T cells to inhibit replication of HIV-1.

Spinocerebellar ataxia 38 (SCA 38) is a very rare autosomal dominant inherited disorder caused by a mutation in ELOV5 gene, specifically expressed in cerebellar Purkinje cells, encoding an enzyme involved in the synthesis of fatty acids. Seven symptomatic SCA 38 patients of a Sardinian family were administered 15 sessions of cerebellar anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in a cross-over study, employing deltoid cerebellar-only (C-tDCS) and cerebello-spinal (CS-tDCS) cathodal montage. Spinocerebellar ataxia 38 (SCA 38) is a rare autosomal neurological disease whose clinical features include, among others, severe gait disturbances that have not yet been fully characterized. In this study, we employed a computerized 3D gait analysis to obtain spatio-temporal parameters of gait and the kinematics in the sagittal plane in the hip, knee, and ankle joints of seven individuals with SCA 38, which were then compared with those of twenty unaffected individuals matched for age, sex, and anthropometric features. The results show that, in comparison with unaffected individuals, those with SCA 38 are characterized by a significantly reduced speed, stride length, and duration of the swing phase, as well as an increased step width and stance and double support phase durations.

The identification of circulating markers of oxidative stress and systemic inflammation might enhance risk stratification in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). We investigated the association between specific haematological parameters, as easily measurable markers of oxidative stress and inflammation, and the degree of hypoxia during polysomnography using the apnea hypopnea index (AHI), oxygen desaturation index (ODI), and oxygen saturation (SpO), in OSA patients.
