Presence and Role of Associations of Cancer Patients and Volunteers in Specialist Breast Centres: An Italian National Survey of Breast Centres Associated with Senonetwork.

This article aims to present the results of a national, cross-sectional, voluntary, online survey on the presence and roles of associations of breast cancer patients and volunteers in Italian specialist breast centres. The survey was developed according to standard methods. The questionnaire was pre-tested by a random sample of three breast centres, loaded onto the SurveyMonkey platform, and piloted by one volunteer breast centre.

First human surgery using a surgical assistance robotics device for laparoscopic cholecystectomies.

Background: Over the past 20 years, surgeons involved in soft tissue minimally invasive surgery have experienced the pros and cons of both conventional and tele-robotic laparoscopic approaches. The Maestro System, developed by Moon Surgical (Paris, France) aims to overcome the challenges inherent to both approaches thanks to a new concept that augments the surgeon's performance at the bedside during a laparoscopic procedure.

Methods: The current study aims to present the first human experience with laparoscopic cholecystectomy with the Maestro system on 10 patients.

Quantum computing architectures with signaling and control mimicking biological processes.

Earlier reports have described a quantum computing architecture, in which key elements are derived from control functions in biology. In this further continuing research, focus is on the signaling and control of a flow of qubits in that architecture, mimicking synapse signals and neurological controls. After a short description of that architecture, and of quantum sensing elements, it is first shown how the coloring of quantum particle flows, implemented as in mathematical colored algebras, can reduce decoherence and enhance the decidability of quantum processing elements.

Is a giant incisional hernia a contraindication for laparoscopic cholecystectomy?

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures worldwide. A previous abdominal operation is not considered a significant risk factor for conversion to open cholecystectomy. We describe the case of an 80-year-old woman with a surgical history of a giant uncomplicated incisional midline hernia presenting at our department with choledocholithiasis and acute cholangitis.

A comparative evaluation of physiological and productive performance of four almond varieties: 'Arrubia', 'Cossu', 'Texas', and 'Tuono', field-grown in Sardinia, Italy, was performed.

Integrating mammography screening programmes into specialist breast centres in Italy: insights from a national survey of Senonetwork breast centres.

Background: Despite recommendations, mammography screening is often insufficiently integrated into specialist breast centres. A national, cross-sectional, voluntary, online survey on this issue was carried out among the Italian breast centres associated with Senonetwork, the Italian network of breast cancer services.

Methods: A 73-item questionnaire was created, pre-tested and piloted.

Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic caused a lockdown in many countries, which induced negative dietary habits and sedentary behavior. Studies suggest that weight loss of patients undergoing bariatric surgery was equally affected. The aim was to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on weight loss, obesity-related comorbidities, and nutritional status at 1-year follow-up after gastric bypass (GB).

Should oncoplastic breast conserving surgery be used for the treatment of early stage breast cancer? Using the GRADE approach for development of clinical recommendations.

Introduction: The potential advantages of oncoplastic breast conserving surgery (BCS) have not been validated in robust studies that constitute high levels of evidence, despite oncoplastic techniques being widely adopted around the globe. There is hence the need to define the precise role of oncoplastic BCS in the treatment of early breast cancer, with consensual recommendations for clinical practice.

Methods: A panel of world-renowned breast specialists was convened to evaluate evidence, express personal viewpoints and establish recommendations for the use of oncoplastic BCS as primary treatment of unifocal early stage breast cancers using the GRADE approach.

Impact of Almond Variety on "Amaretti" Cookies as Assessed through Image Features Modeling, Physical Chemical Measures and Sensory Analyses.

In the present study, the influence of almond variety on color, chemical, physical and sensory characteristics of "amaretti" cookies during the shelf life, was assessed. Four varieties were chosen for the study, two of which were local (Cossu, Arrubia) and two widely cultivated (Tuono, Texas). Almonds have been characterized in the content of proteins, crude fat, amygdalin and fatty acids profile.

Effect of gels containing chlorhexidine or epigallocatechin-3-gallate on the protein composition of the acquired enamel pellicle.

Objective: This study evaluated changes in protein profile of the acquired enamel pellicle (AEP) formed in vivo, after application of gels containing chlorhexidine or EGCG and further challenge with citric acid.

Relationship of cognitions and symptoms of agoraphobia in Hong Kong Chinese: a combined quantitative and qualitative study.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore and describe the subjective experiences of agoraphobia in Hong Kong Chinese.

Method: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study, using a combined qualitative-quantitative approach. In the qualitative part, two focus groups were held with nine participants suffering from DSM-IV panic disorder with agoraphobia, followed up in a regional hospital in Hong Kong.

[Antithyroid antibodies and endemic goiter].

Relationship between thyroid autoantibodies and endemic goiter have been studied in 164 subjects from three different areas of endemic goiter: 91 patients and 31 healthy controls from Central Sardinia, 23 patients from Northern Latium, and 19 patients from Southern Latium. In subjects with endemic goiter from Sardinia higher levels of thyroid autoantibodies were present as compared to the healthy controls; microsomal fraction autoantibodies titer was higher than antithyroglobulin autoantibodies. In subjects from the two other endemic goiter areas the antimicrosomal and antithyroglobulin autoantibodies were absent, with the exception of one patient with basedow's goiter.

Game theoretical pattern recognition: application to imperfect noncooperative learning and to multiclass classification.

This paper studies in theory, and gives a solution to, the following concerns which may eventually be simultaneous: 1) obtain alternative classification decisions, ranked by some decreasing order of class membership probabilities; 2) imperfect teacher at the learning stage, or effects of labeling errors due to unsupervised learning by clustering; 3) noncooperative teacher, manipulating the a priori class probabilities; 4) unknown a priori class probabilities. These requirements are taken into account by considering a game between the recognition system and the teacher, in a game theoretical framework. Both players will ultimately select ``mixed strategies,'' which are probability distributions over the set of N alternative pattern classes, determined for each feature vector to be classified.

Integrated testing and algorithms for visual inspection of integrated circuits.

This paper deals with the integrated pre-cap testing of integrated circuits (IC's), defined as a simultaneous combination of electrical testing and of visual inspection using image analysis techniques. The emphasis is on image analysis models and algorithms for integrated testing of small and large defects. Two algorithms are presented for the analysis of visible and infrared imagery during electrical testing.
