Introduction: Closed static interlocking nailing with c-arm guidance is the standard procedure for the treatment of closed diaphyseal fractures. In low-income settings, it is still very difficult to carry out such procedures because of few or absent image intensifiers (c-arm) despite the necessity. Authors provide a review of the literature on interlocking intramedullary nailing without fluoroscopy in resource-limited settings, followed by strategies, outcomes, and outlook.

Article Synopsis
  • Open osteoclasis, soft-tissue release, and fracture reduction were used to treat 10 cases of neglected distal femoral physeal fractures, marking a unique surgical approach not previously reported.
  • The procedure involves an anterolateral surgical approach, disrupting excess fracture callus and carefully disassociating soft tissue to protect the growth plate during realignment.
  • Developed for remote medical settings where injuries are treated late, this technique aims to correct deformities and preserve limb growth, with expected outcomes including reduced malalignment and increased limb length.

Article Synopsis
  • Bilateral symmetric anterior shoulder dislocations (BSASD) are likely in patients with flattened shoulders following uncontrolled muscle contractions, such as during a seizure.
  • BSASD should be treated quickly because late diagnosis makes management more difficult.
  • If BSASD persists for two years, a young patient may have only fair shoulder function.
