Objective: To determine the association among long-term unemployment, clinician supply (as assessed by primary care and mental health clinician shortage areas), and rates of NAS and evaluate how associations differ based on rurality.

Design, Setting, And Participants: Ecological time-series analysis of a retrospective, repeated cross-sectional study using outcome data from all 580 counties in Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington from 2009 to 2015 and economic data from 2000 to 2015.

Oral cancer is a growing health issue in a number of low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), particularly in South and Southeast Asia. The described dual-modality, dual-view, point-of-care oral cancer screening device, developed for high-risk populations in remote regions with limited infrastructure, implements autofluorescence imaging (AFI) and white light imaging (WLI) on a smartphone platform, enabling early detection of pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions in the oral cavity with the potential to reduce morbidity, mortality, and overall healthcare costs. Using a custom Android application, this device synchronizes external light-emitting diode (LED) illumination and image capture for AFI and WLI.

The information from the autofluorescence and white light image pair is extracted, calculated, and fused to feed the deep learning neural networks.

In a retrospective study of 501 neonates with potential in utero substance exposure, the drug detection performance of a commercially available umbilical cord tissue toxicology test was evaluated against a commercially available gold standard meconium toxicology test. Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy for the Detection of a Metabolic Product in the Headspace Above Live Bacterial Cultures.

In situ surface-enhanced Raman spectra of the headspace above cultures of six bacterial species showed strong characteristic bands from chemisorbed methyl sulfide. This marker compound is created by dissociation of dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), a fermentative metabolite of bacteria, on the surface of the enhancing Au or Ag nanoparticle films. Kinetic binding plots of media spiked with DMDS and of live cultures showed that the Au-based substrates were more suitable for the rapid detection of bacteria than Ag-based substrates.
