Background: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) development is driven by inflammation, in particular myeloid cells, which represent attractive biomarker candidates. Yet to date, the maximum aortic diameter is the only clinically applied predictor of AAA progression and indicator for surgical repair.
