The Patient-Physician Relationship and Adherence: Observations From a Clinical Study.

Improved patient-physician relationships (PPR) are associated with better patient satisfaction and disease outcomes, however, there is limited literature assessing how PPR affects adherence in dermatology. We recruited 30 subjects with a clinical diagnosis of rosacea. Subjects were instructed to use ivermectin 1% cream once daily for 3 months and adherence was measured using the Medication Event Monitoring System cap.

Treatment Adherence in Dermatology During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Review.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic raised many challenges for dermatology. Safety is a principal concern for many patients, particularly those on medications that affect the immune system. Understanding how the pandemic affects patients' treatment adherence may be informative for counseling or other interventions to assure that treatment plans are not inappropriately interrupted, or for future pandemics.

Prescribing Trends for Acne Vulgaris Visits in the United States.

Acne vulgaris is the most common reason for pediatric patients and third most common reason for adult patients to seek care from a dermatologist in the US. However, referring providers may be reluctant to initiate patients on acne treatment or certain prescriptions. We assessed over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription acne (antibiotic and non-antibiotic) treatment rates to characterize differences by patient demographics and provider specialty.

Dermatology through the lens of social media: A qualitative study among adolescents.

Social media (SM) use has accelerated at an unprecedented pace and dermatology literature evaluating SM use is primarily centered on the quality and quantity of dermatologic content, with minimal research on how adolescent patients experience such content. We recruited 15 patients between the ages of 13-18 years from the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Department of Dermatology to interview regarding their experience with dermatologic content on SM. Despite most participants' insightful comments on SM use and the relative lack of dermatologic content validation on SM, many participants adopted skin care advice from SM.

The use of oral vitamin A in acne management: a review.

Background: Changes to the iPLEDGE platform on December 13, 2021 made isotretinoin virtually inaccessible for many patients. Prior to the FDA approval of isotretinoin, a derivative of vitamin A, in 1982, vitamin A was used for severe acne.

Objective: To review the efficacy, safety, affordability, and practicality of vitamin A as a substitute for isotretinoin when the latter is inaccessible.

Patient adherence to medications usually increases with age, however, it can also be impacted by other factors. Accountability is a psychosocial construct that is defined as the expectation for an individual to account for their actions. Accountability may also influence patients' motivation to adhere to their treatments.

This cross-sectional, deception-controlled study measures IAB of physicians towards an unexpected stimulus while interpreting written radiological reports.

Therapeutic Potential of Tralokinumab in the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis: A Review on the Emerging Clinical Data.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that greatly impacts patient quality of life. Type 2 cytokine interleukin (IL)-13 is integral to the pathogenesis of AD. Tralokinumab is a fully human IgG4 monoclonal antibody that specifically targets IL-13, preventing downstream signaling of inflammatory pathways that may contribute to AD.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa's Impact on Social Activities: An Observational Study.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) can severely impact patients' quality of life. However, its specific impact on participation in everyday social activities is not well characterized. We recruited a cohort of patients with HS to complete a survey assessing the degree of interference HS has on participation in social activities.

Abrocitinib: A New FDA-Approved Drug for Moderate-to-Severe Atopic Dermatitis.

Objective: The objective of this article is to review abrocitinib, an oral Janus kinase (JAK) 1 inhibitor, for the treatment of patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD).

Data Sources: A literature search of MEDLINE (PubMed) was performed for articles from inception through end-March 2022 using the following search terms: atopic dermatitis, abrocitinib, PF-04965842, methotrexate, cyclosporine, dupilumab, ruxolitinib, and JAK-STAT pathway.

Study Selection And Data Extraction: English articles relating to pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, efficacy, and safety of abrocitinib, and other conventional systemic medications for AD, were included.

Full-body skin examinations (FBSEs) involve examination of the patient's skin from head to toe, and may be uncomfortable for some patients. While many patients prefer same-sex providers for pelvic, genital and rectal exams, desire for same-sex providers for FBSEs is not well characterized. This may be further magnified when FBSE is performed by medical trainees.

Psoriasis is the result of uncontrolled keratinocyte proliferation, and its pathogenesis involves the dysregulation of the immune system. The interplay among cytokines released by dendritic, T1, T2, and T17 cells leads to the phenotypical manifestations seen in psoriasis. Biological therapies target the cytokine-mediated pathogenesis of psoriasis and have improved patient quality of life.
