Fiber dosimeters have recently drawn much interest for measuring in vivo and in real time the dose of medical radiations. This paper presents the first miniaturized fiber dosimeter integrated at the end of a narrow 125 μm outer diameter optical fiber. Miniaturization is rendered possible by exploiting the concept of a leaky wave optical antenna for interfacing the scintillators and the fiber and by taking advantage of the low propagation loss of narrow silica fibers and high detection yield of single-pixel photon counters.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the 5-year late toxicity of concurrent B and RT in non-metastatic breast cancer.
Materials And Methods: This multicentre prospective study included non-metastatic breast cancer patients enrolled in phase 3 clinical trials evaluating B with concurrent RT versus RT alone.
The purpose of this multicenter prospective and descriptive study was to determine late toxicities and outcomes among patients with non-metastatic breast cancer receiving concurrent bevacizumab (BV) and radiation therapy (RT) in the clinical trials. Early and late toxicities were assessed and evaluation was available for 63 patients (pts) at 12 months. Acute radiation dermatitis was observed in 48 (76%): grade 1 for 27, grade 2 for 17 and grade 3 for 4 pts.

Patients And Methods: Patients with recurrent HNSCC or a second primary not amenable to curative-intent treatment were randomized to the R-RT arm (concurrent re-irradiation, fluorouracil and hydroxyurea) or to the Ch-T arm (methotrexate). The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS).

The aim of the present study was to compare the tumour grade, Estrogen Receptor (ER), Progesteron Receptor (PgR) and Human Epidermal Receptor-2 (HER-2) status in the core needle biopsy (CNB) with those observed in the subsequent excisional primary tumour (EPT). All patients diagnosed with an early breast cancer in our University Hospital Center between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2006 were included but exclusion criteria of patients with large tumour requiring neoadjuvant chemotherapy and cases with more than one tumour (multicentricity/multifocality tumours). Histological tumour grade assessed according to Nottingham Grading System (SBRm), ER, Pgr and HER-2 tumoural status were assessed twice in CNB and in EPT.

Many studies have shown that the risk of a second cancer after radiotherapy is dependent on the size of the exposure fields and the strength of delivered doses of radiotherapy.
